Terry Teale, Executive Director
Proposal to use the 11-th grade results of the CRMT
Provosts are proposing a pilot starting with the Fall 2010 admissions cycle (that is, starting with
H.S. juniors taking the test Spring 2009):
If an 11-th grader takes the new College Readiness Math Test, and scores above the bright
line (i.e., ready for college level math/above remedial math), and
Meets the new HECB minimum admissions requirements (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and
the senior-year requirement of a math or math-based course. (These new requirements are
set to go into effect in 2012, but under this agreement the student would be required to meet
them now.) And,
Enrolls in a public baccalaureate institution the summer or fall following their senior year,
Then, the public baccalaureate institutions:
o Will not require that student to take remedial math.
o May require additional placement tests be taken by the entering first-year student, and may give
guidance based on those results, but will not require the student to take a remedial math
course.
The public baccalaureate institutions will follow this agreement for several admissions cycles,
through the Fall 2013 cycle (that is, for H.S. juniors taking the test in Spring 2009 through Spring
2012) and will study the outcomes for students. Based on interim results, baccalaureate
institutions may make modifications to help student achievement as we go along.
