The war Horse pdf review

By Michel Morpurgo

About the author

Michael Morpurgo has written over one hundred books

and won many awards. In 1976 Michael and his wife Clare

started the charity Farms For City Children, which aims to

relieve the poverty of experience of young children from

inner city and urban areas. In 1999 they were awarded the

MBE for their work in creating these farms and in 2006

Michael received an OBE.

His novel War Horse has been adapted into a hugely

successful and critically acclaimed West End play. Michael

is a tireless champion for children’s books and was

formerly the Children’s Laureate. Loved by children,

teachers and parents alike, Michael Morpurgo has won the

Whitbread Award, the Smarties Award, the Circle of Gold

Award, the Children’s Book Award and has been short-

listed for the Carnegie Medal four times.

From master storyteller, Michael Morpurgo comes an incredibly moving story about one

horse's experience in the deadly chaos of the first world war. In 1914, Joey, a beautiful

bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose , is sold to the army and thrust into the

midst of the war on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges towards the enemy,

witnessing the horror of the frontline. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey's

courage touches the soldiers around him. Former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo

needs no introduction. He is one of the most successful children's authors in the country,

loved by children, teachers and parents alike. Michael has written more than forty books

and won the Whitbread Award, the Smarties Award, the Circle of Gold Award, the

Children's Book Award and has been short-listed for the Carnegie Medal four times. His

novels have been adapted for film (My Friend Walter, Why the Whales Came) and stage

(including, Kensuke's Kingdom for the Polka Theatre and Why the Whales Came for Alibi).

Michael received an OBE in December 2006 for his services to literature.

This book can be heartbreakingly sad at times so is not for the sensitive readers. I

recommend it for anyone over 9 and likes war themed stories as this will blow them

away. Thanks to authors like Michael Morpurgo, stories like Joey's will reach a wider

audience, and will always be in black and white on well-read pages.
