APPENDIX A: MOUSE AND KEYBOARD
MOUSE
If your mouse has more than one button, use the left button unless told otherwise.
(Use right button if using left handed mouse.) The following table explains the
basic terms associated with using the mouse:
Using The Mouse
Action Description
Point Position the pointer on an item.
Click Point to an item, then quickly press and release the mouse
button.
Double-click Point to an item, then quickly press and release the mouse button
twice.
Drag Point to an item. Press and hold the mouse button as you move
the mouse to a new location, then release the mouse button.
The shape of the mouse pointer will change depending on where you are and what
you are doing. When you click in a text field, the pointer takes the shape of a
vertical line. When you point to a menu or toolbar, the pointer becomes an arrow.
The following table lists the common pointer shapes.

Menu bar, inactive window, scroll bar, toolbar.
Choose commands, click buttons, drag.
Along the sides, top, bottom or corners of a window,
table or picture. Drag to resize the object.

Mouse Pointer Shapes
Pointer Action
Usually seen on pictures, this indicates that you can
drag the object to a new location.
To Choose A Menu Command Using The Left Mouse Button.
1.) Point to a menu item and click the left mouse button to display the
drop-down menu.
2.) Point to a command on the drop-down menu and click the left mouse
button.

To Choose A Menu Command Using The Right Mouse Button.
When you point to a toolbar or select certain items in a data window, you can
display a short-cut menu by clicking the right mouse button. Short-cut menu
commands relate to the item you’re working with.
To close a short-cut menu without choosing a command, click anywhere outside
the short-cut menu or press ESC.

KEYBOARD
You can also use the keyboard to select commands from the menu bar. To choose
a command using the keyboard:

1.) Press the ALT key and then press the underlined letter in the menu
name to display a menu.
2.) Press the underlined letter in the command name to choose a
command.
For example, to choose Inspections from the Inspections Entry Work Request
Management screen, press ALT, T, I.

combination of keystrokes to access menu commands. The list shown below
describes each of the function keys or combination keystrokes and their
corresponding menu commands. Each corresponds to a button on the Toolbar.
When the button is not visible, the specific function is unavailable.
