What is a Myth?
• A traditional or legendary story among a
culture.
• Normally features gods and heroes.
• Story is not based on fact or has natural
explanations. But sometimes has a real
event as its base. (ie: The Trojan War)
• A lot like a legend, fairy tale, folklore
story.
What are myths used for?
• Helps to explain the nature of the universe
and humanity.
• Shows bravery and strength of humans.
• Provides a belief or tradition among a
culture. (A particular culture can believe
the story to be true.)
• Teaches a lesson for younger generations.
What is an Epic?
• A long story normally written in poetic
form.
• Is usually centered upon a hero, in which a
lot of great achievements or events is told.
• Very heroic, majestic, and impressively
great!
Odyssey means…
• A long series of adventures.
• Filled with great experiences and
hardships.
• Comes from “The story of Odysseus!”
