Map Making Project!
Project-due- Monday September 26.
Create a colorful map of the thirteen colonies (no larger than half a poster
board and no smaller than regular paper) Be sure to title your map and
include a key. Your map and key should be designed in such a way that the
following questions are answered by the use of different colors and/or
symbols in your key: Please also include the year that each colony was
founded on your map.
1 What are the different reasons for why each colony was founded?
Religious, economic, etc
2 What economic activities did each colony engage in? (For example,
you could stick a tree in the key and put trees in the colonies that
supplied lumber., or put a tobacco symbol in Virginia )
3 Extra points for including some other visual information on your map!
Be sure that all of your colonies are labeled with the correct names!

Rubric for Map project: Worth 50 Points:
47-50 (A/A+) points:
-Map is colorful and creative-aesthetically pleasing
-Map has all colonies accurately labeled
-Map has the year of which each colony was founded
-Map has a key that explains why each colony was founded
-Map has key that explains the economic activities of each colony
-Map information is accurate with no mistakes
43-47 (B+/A-) points:
Map is colorful and somewhat aesthetically pleasing
-Map has a couple of inaccuracies
-Map has a key that explains why each colony was founded
-Map has key that explains the economic activities of each colony
-Map may be missing the years the colonies were founded.
38-42 (C+/B-):
-Map is not colorful
-Map has a few inaccuracies
-Map has a key that explains why each colony was founded
-Map has key that explains the economic activities of each colony
-Map may be missing the years the colonies were founded.
35- 38 (C):
Map is missing why each colony is founded or the economic activities of each colony
Nothing less will be accepted!
