The Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader that you can use to download, browse for, shop or read

different types of communications, like newspapers, journals, magazines, blogs and other types of

digital media. Like with any other electronic device, the Amazon Kindle requires some sort of

protection from the dangers of everyday life, like falls, liquid spills, scratches, and other

occurrences that could endanger its correct operation. To protect your Kindle e-book reader you

must purchase a cover or case for it, however, not all the covers and cases fit every type of kindle;

in this article you will find a guide to quickly be able to get the protective case or cover that your

kindle needs, and that will better suit your needs.

When you purchase a kindle case or cover, the most important thing that you need to check, is for

which model of the device it is designed, as different iterations of the Amazon Kindle have diverse

measures. There have been various versions of the Amazon Kindle; the first generation was

released on 2007, and sports a 6 inch diagonal screen, its dimensions are: 7.5" x 5.3" x 0.7". As

three more generations of Kindle have been released since the time of the original, finding cases

and covers for this type of kindle is becoming more difficult as time passes.

The second generation Kindle, released on 2009 also has a 6 inch screen, and its dimensions are:

8" x 5.3" x 0.36", which makes it a little longer, but thinner than the first generation; there is

another version of the second generation kindle, referred to as the Kindle DX, which is much

larger, having a 9.7 inch screen and dimensions of 10.4" x 7.2" x 0.38".

The next iteration of the e-book reader, the Kindle 3, also known as "Kindle Keyboard", released in

2010, is 0.5 inches shorter and 0.5 inches narrower than the Kindle 2. This means that cases for

this type of kindle won't fit the earlier models.

In 2011 another version, in the form of a tablet computer was released, dubbed "Kindle Fire", its

dimensions are: 7.5" x 4.7" x 0.45", which makes it smaller than the third generation Kindle,

although a little more broad.

Once you know which model of Kindle you own, and its dimensions, you can choose a case or

cover that is designed for it, and that will fit your e-book reader perfectly. If you don't know for

which model the cover or case is designed, you must always check its dimensions, or you might

end up with a case that does not fit your reader.
