Assignment:
Carefully following the instructions in Chapter 6, create a Thematic Map using
previously downloaded and derived data (or the provided data for this chapter).
After creating your new map, be sure and save the final ArcMap Document to your “M”
drive or a memory stick. Also, “export” a .jpg copy and save. Insert this .jpg copy in
this word document.

Summarize what you did in Chapter 6.
In chapter 6, we took a set of data downloaded from the census.gov website, and
adjusted it to be displayed in a Thematic map. Basically, we first took the data
we wanted, and selected it as our data for graduated colors. Then, we changed
the way the data was displayed so it looked like %, rather than a decimal number.
We then changed the number of classes being used to display on the map, and
changed the break points between the different colors. Finally, we went in and
added our legend, source, title, and north arrow to round out the final map. This
lesson was very informative in understanding how to display data on a map very
quickly and easily, and is a very important part of GIS.
As before, include the questions above in your submittal, and change the font/color of
your answer. Upload final submittal to your e-portfolio. Don’t forget to continue
building your course notebook and e-portfolio.
