Fix the Windows Is Not Genuine Error - How To Fix This Problem on Windows 7

Easily

A lot of people are experiencing a problem with Windows 7 when they switch

it on and suddenly get a warning box appear saying: Windows is not genuine.

Your computer might not be running a counterfeit copy of Windows.

This happens even though the version of windows you are running came with

your computer or you installed it yourself with a genuine license. This has

happened to a lot of people and trying to fix it can very hard unless you

know what to do.

As well as this error message appearing you will see that the desktop turns

black and then the following message appears. "This copy of Windows is not

genuine" and "You must activate today. Activate Windows now."

Your first thought may be that it is a virus or malware, but it is not.

This is really a warning from Microsoft.

The cause of this is in the registry settings. This error can be caused by

the following.

#1 Changing hardware on the computer can trigger this, but specific changes

have to be made. Once a certain amount of hardware has been changed it will

trigger this and will only apply if this number is surpassed in one go.

# A virus or malware attack can trigger this, but the error itself is

genuine.

#3 Registry corruption can cause this.

Here is how to fix this problem without spending hours on the phone to

Microsoft or calling a technician who may tell you to reinstall windows.

#1 Go to start on the windows task bar then run and type in rsop.msc. This

will open the resultant set of policy window.

#2 Go to computer configuration then Windows settings then security

settings then system services in the rsop window.

#3 In right hand pane click on the "Plug and Play" icon. Double click on it

and set the start up type to automatic.

#4 Now go back to the windows start and then run and type in the following:

"gpupdate /force" without the quotes. This will force the updates to take

place. Now you restart your computer and this should be fixed.

If your windows 7 computer reports the windows is not genuine error you can

fix this by following these steps and once you have done this the error

should never reappear again unless there is registry corruption or a virus

or malware attack.

One indication of this being malware or registry corruption related is your

computer will start to slow down a lot and generate other errors before you

see the windows is not genuine error.

If the problem occurs again you should perform a full virus scan on your

computer. If this does not show anything then scan it for further registry

errors and malware to ensure your computer is not being attacked. You can

do this by downloading a system and registry scanner which will do this for

you.
