ELL Kindergarten News December 2011
Dear Parents,
November has flown by! It is hard to believe that we are beginning the last month
of 2011! In November the boys and girls enjoyed learning about food and Thanksgiving
Traditions from today and long ago. They were fascinated to watch the seeds that we
collected from our class pumpkin begin to sprout before our very eyes in plastic bags on
our classroom windows! We have since planted our seeds and hope to watch them grow in
our classroom all year.
In the month of December we will be learning about money, wants & needs, the
Gingerbread Man, and Celebrations around the World. We will be practicing oral fluency
through silly songs and chants and we will also begin to focus on diagraphs (th, sh, ch) and
some blends (such as bl, cl, dr…) through chants and games.
Please mark your calendars! On the evening of December 14th, Buffalo Trail will be
hosting an International Night celebration. Please look for more information about the
evening from the main office. On that night, a special audio-visual project titled “The
Ways We Celebrate” created by the Buffalo Trail ELL students will be featured. We will
also host a “showing” of our presentation on the morning of December 14th in the ELL
kindergarten classroom at 9:45 am for any parents who will be unable to attend the
evening International Night.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns! The best ways to
reach me are via e-mail at Courtney.McGowan@lcps.org or via telephone at (703) 722-
