Manager
The Manager’s main responsibility is to help the President with whatever needs
she may have. Whether it is for a tour, single concert, fundraiser, or rehearsal, the
Manager should always be ready and willing to assist the President with any jobs that
might need to be completed.
For concerts, the Manager is responsible for making sure that the concert runs
smoothly by knowing exactly what is going on at all times. She should be confident
enough to be able to direct members of the music ensembles, if called upon to do so.
Often, the Manager may need to assemble a stage crew to set-up chairs and stands for the
orchestra, move the piano to a different position, or simply clear the stage. Ideally, there
will be an intermission in which to do this; however, it is possible that such movements
may need to be done in-between group numbers. It is in such cases, that it is crucial to
have practiced the movements with the stage crew prior to the performance, so that they
may be performed smoothly and confidently. The most demanding concert for the
Manager is the Christmas Vespers concert. Because this concert includes so many
ensembles and often has numerous stage changes, it is essential that the Manager
understand the various transitions between songs. In such a complex and significant
concert, it is frequently necessary to delegate many small duties to other Glee Club
officers
Another responsibility for the Manager is making sure that there are ushers for
every concert. Usually, if you contact the business manager of Chorale, they may be able
to gather singers to do this. Ushers are responsible for greeting people, handing out
programs and directing audience members to their seats. They are only required for the
45 minutes before the concert, to do this. Sometimes it is nice if one of them can stay
throughout the concert and hold on to the moneybox for CD sales. The manager should
check in with the Audio Coordinator, however, and make sure that this is desired.
If the Manager is not a senior, then she is responsible for planning the annual end-
of-the-year Choral Banquet. I have inserted a plan for the 2007 Choral Banquet that you
can refer to for a general outline of the event. *Note* Please check with Rachel Osborn to
confirm all of the details, especially financial ones.
