Animals of the Rainforest
Match these rainforest animals with their descriptions!

1. This animal is a type of lizard. They have long tails
and green, scaly skin. They are herbivores and can
grow up to about 2 metres long. They usually live
orangutan near river banks.
2. This is a large ape that lives in South East Asia in Borneo
and Sumatra. Its name means ‘Man of The Forest’ in Malay.
anaconda It is a reddish-brown colour and has a large body with a thick neck.
3. This is a slow-moving animal that lives in trees.
They spend much of their time upside-down. They
toucan are nocturnal animals which have thick, brown
fur, strong claws, big eyes and a short nose.
4. This is a very beautiful bird which lives in central
cassowary and South America. Its feathers are brilliantly-
coloured (green, red and white) and it has a
yellow beak.
jaguar 5. This is the biggest snake in the world. It lives in
swamps in tropical South America. The longest one ever
found was 11.4 metres! It is greenish-brown with
black oval spots on its back.
sloth 6. This is a bird about 50 cm long which lives in
lowland rainforests. It has an enormous bill which
is rainbow-coloured. Its body is black with a green head,
a yellow chest, red tail feathers and blue feet.

7. These wild cats live in Central and South America.
They are between 1.2 and 1.8m long and have long
tails. They have brownish-yellow fur with black spots.
They are an endangered species.
green iguana 8. This is an amphibian which is named for its very
large, bright eyes. Its body is bright green with
blue sides and yellow stripes. Its feet are red or
orange. It has long powerful legs for jumping.
quetzal 9. This is a huge bird from Australia which can’t fly.
It is the second biggest bird in the world. It has a black
body, a blue neck and the top of its head is brown.
10. This is a large, rare mammal which lives in South East
Asia. It has thick, black fur and a long, muscular tail
red-eyed and white whiskers. It is about 1.5m long and uses its
tree frog sense of smell to find small animals and fruit to eat.
