I remember when I was a teenager years ago and first picked up a guitar, I instantly fell in love
with the instrument. Many teens are drawn to the guitar because they want to emulate their
favorite rock stars; I was no different. My guitar idol was Slash from Guns n Roses; I remember I
made it a goal to learn Sweet Child o' Mine. This was an extremely difficult song to take on as a
beginner, but it was a good one because it forced me to work hard at learning my instrument of
choice.
If you're new to guitar, you should bear in mind that the most important tool you have at your
disposal to learn the instrument is your desire. Not just a plain old wish to be cool and impress
your friends, I'm talking about a deep, burning desire to become great and do whatever it takes to
master the guitar.
When you have this desire, there is no need for lessons. Especially with the Internet, you have all
the information you need right at your fingertips. If you have that burning desire to learn to play like
I did back when I was 15, then you will likely spend all your free time jamming along to your
favorite CD, honing your fingers and plowing through all the hand cramps and callouses.
I'm telling you right now, all you need to get started is a guitar, and your raw passion for the
instrument. When you have that desire, your heart will be your guide and will attract you to
learning all the techniques and theory you need. You've probably noticed that I haven't even given
any sort of technical knowledge about playing the guitar.......and that's because you will learn all
that on your own! Just keep this in mind - belief and burning desire equals success. Not just for
learning guitar, but for succeeding at anything in life!
