I’ll never forget the time I went cliff
repelling
When I was in high school I got to go to a ropes
course in Southern Oklahoma. It was so much fun! I
had never been hiking or climbing before. I was very
excited. At first I was nervous cause my parents
weren’t going. Some of my friends were going so I
felt better. Repelling down a cliff was so much fun!
Being able to do that on my own was the greatest.
The particularly chilly morning was a mixture of excitement and
nerves. I was at Red River Ropes Course with my church youth
group, anticipating my first time to repel down a cliff. I quickly
devoured my warm breakfast of fluffy eggs and eagerly changed
into my hiking gear. We were going repelling, something I had
never done before. I impatiently watched my friends repel, and
even though I was excited, the fireworks in my stomach almost
made me change my mind. When my turn came, I started
shaking as the safety workers hooked me up to my tight,
scratchy harness. My smelly helmet almost covered my eyes as
I began to awkwardly slide my feet over the steep cliffs edge. I
gripped the rough repel line as if my life depended on it. I barely
heard Father Dave yell “ Now let go!”, as I felt my feet jerk down
toward the ground. Much to my surprise, I was still hanging on,
and caught my footing! After realizing my triumph, I
instinctively became more relaxed and eased my way down the
cliff side. Even though it took me longer than my friends to
conquer the gray dull rock face, I will never forget that
wonderful feeling of achievement.
