The Bible according to a dictionary meaning is Christian holy book: the sacred book of the Christian religion.
However, we as children of God know that the bible is more than just a Christian book, lf not it would have
been like any other book written by a Christian .We know the bible as the word of God, the word of truth.
We need to differentiate reading the bible and studying the bible. Anybody who can read a particular
language can read the bible, thus , you do not need to be a believer, a born again Christian to read the
bible, but studying the bible in the true sense of it needs the help of the Holy spirit.
Why do I need to study the bible
There are several reasons why we study the bible, but for the purpose of this meeting we will restrict it to
them basic and fundamental ones .
It is one of God commands to mankind.(2 Timothy 2 ,1- 15) Timothy 4 : 11 -15 To equip ourselves for the
Kingdom work.2 Tim 2 19-21. To be able to prove all things from the word of God Thessalonians 5 20 -21
To commune with him. Prayer is not the only way through which we can communicate with God, through
the studying of the bible, the Holy spirit reveals the mind of God by revelation through the word in the
bible.
Methods of studying the bible.
Personal study :quite time reading the bible directly with the help of Holy spirit, Using Christian books and
materials e.g daily devotionals Group study; A good example is this group, where we all come together and
rob minds, bible talks about Iron sharpenth Iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Bible
encourages us not to forsake the brotherly fellowship .i.e Fellowshipping together. Trans or dreams. Thy
lord can speak to an individual in a trans or dreams , then we go an study that part of scripture for a
particular purpose God wants to achieve.
Discussion
How do we know, we are really studying the bible and not just reading as a story book. Is it possible to get
a revelation from the devil while studying the bible. Who were the first sets of people in the scripture to
use the bible, where and how was it used. What do we do when we study and do not get any revelation.
