Fall of 2009 brings some new and exciting programs designed to support and
assist the local Construction Business & Industry. By increasing your

Business Development ITBD together with CCSU will be presenting a program for those
Center. interested in becoming certified as an AIC Associate Constructor, Level
1, or for other individuals interested in this robust Construction
Industry Program.
This program is available for both experienced practitioners and new
candidates entering the profession and will cover the materials as part of
exam preparation for- American Institute of Constructors, Level 1,
Certification Exam, scheduled at CCSU in November.
Sample of the topics presented will be; Engineering Concepts, Construction
Materials, Bidding and Estimating, Planning and Scheduling, Construction
Safety, and Project Administration.

“Mentoring for Business Success” quick points from some our recent
activities and events:
The KPMG Executive Breakfast Series “Six Sigma Strategies” with
ITBD’s Instructor Mike Todhunter and KPMG’s Advisory Principal Glen
Siriano.
Six Sigma is a useful strategy to tackle problems with unknown solutions

The New Britain Downtown District awarded its “Hammer & Nails”
Award to ITBD for its Economic contribution to downtown. In 2008, we
ITBD’s 12th Annual Golf had over 54,000 people attend events in the ITBD Conference Center. In
2009, the count was reduced to 40,000.

GrowJobs CT funds Teacher Enhancement Program: Nine school
districts participated in a Teacher Enhancement program for Math, Science
and Guidance staff (totaling 25 staff). Staff learned where high school
math\science concepts were being applied in manufacturing in our region.
The group toured SPX Corporation in Newington, CT to see where these
skills were being applied.
End of Fiscal Year 2009: ITBD finished the year successfully. As a result
of much hard work and redefining our Strategic Plan in February the year
finished positive. In August, staff will be meeting to plan for 2010.
CCSU School of Engineering and Technology funds Young Engineers
Program: Thirty New Britain Middle School students participated in the
program finished July 9th. Dr. Sianez led the students through exercises
exploring Engineering practices, Construction Management and Information
Technology Systems.
Summer Youth Employment Program: Sixty New Britain High School
students are working at 20 job sites in the community and learning
workplace skills for careers in Engineering, Healthcare, Information
Technology, Banking and Education. The program finishes in August.
University Student Learn and ITBD: CCSU student Brieanne Wacker,
SCSU Student Erin Conrod, and Helmut Schmidt University\University of
the Armed Forces of Germany Intern Nico Mohring are supporting the
