The Director of Fund Development of St. Andrew’s Housing Group (SAHG) provides leadership,

creates overall strategies, and manages implementation of fundraising initiatives designed to build long-

term financial stability for SAHG and ensure the preservation of its affordable housing portfolio. The

Director of Fund Development is responsible for the significant growth of all aspects of SAHG’s

fundraising including annual, major and planned gifts; annual fundraising events; special fundraising

campaigns; government, foundation and corporate grants and sponsorships; external marketing and

communications; and other special events. Additionally, the Director of Fund Development will execute

the strategic vision of SAHG’s Board of Directors and further SAHG’s mission by successfully leading

the organization into a capital campaign. The Director of Fund Development operates under the general

direction and supervision of the Executive Director. The Director of Fund Development supervises the

staff within the Fund Development Department, which presently consists of one Fund Development

Associate.





Key Responsibilities

Major Gifts

• Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects for major and planned gifts and manage a personal visit

calendar.

• Solicit major gifts of $5,000 and above and apply a variety of relationship management techniques to

solicitation activities, with an emphasis on personal donor visits.

• Develop approaches, activities, and opportunities for interaction and engagement with donors that

lead to solicitation and gift commitments and that will offer appropriate stewardship to prospects that

have made such commitments to SAHG.

• Work with donors to complete major gifts and planned gifts which meet donors’ charitable giving

objectives and support SAHG’s mission.

• Implement a moves management process for individual donors setting up appropriate cultivation

moves and acknowledgments. Develop and create short-term goals and long-range strategic plans for

stewarding existing donors and growing individual giving.

• Work with the Finance Department to ensure that gifts are expedited and are properly accounted.

• Engage and collaborate with the Executive Director, Board members, long-time SAHG volunteers,

Fund Development Committee and other staff in donor prospecting, outreach, cultivation,

recognition and stewardship.

• Oversee planned giving program, including cultivating and soliciting prospects.

• Document major gift donor and prospect contacts in the donor database in accordance with

established procedures.



Other Fund Development

• Create and oversee successful implementation of an annual Fund Development Plan and an annual

Grants Plan to expand fundraising each year and achieve budgeted fundraising goals.

• Research, supervise, manage and write grant applications and grant reports, in conjunction with the

Fund Development Team and other appropriate staff, to private and public sources to fulfill funding

needs for general operations and resident services programs.

• Strategically identify opportunities and cultivate relationships with corporations and foundations to

increase giving.

• Maintain strong communication and relationships with all grant makers.

• Oversee the Fund Development Team and volunteers’ work in hosting a successful annual

fundraising event.

• Lead the annual giving campaign (ie Fall Campaign) by securing a matching contribution,

developing solicitation materials, making individualized requests and providing personalized

recognition to donors.

• Oversee the prompt individualized recognition of all individual, corporate, government and

foundation donations and grants.



Marketing and Outreach

• Orchestrate the development and implementation of comprehensive branding, marketing and public

relations strategies, including SAHG’s quarterly newsletters, annual report, and website.



Leadership

• Effectively supervise and manage the Fund Development Team and Fund Development Department

to ensure that Fund Development goals are achieved.

• Support the Board’s constructive engagement in fundraising activities.

• Serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for SAHG throughout the community and among

funding sources.

• Attend and ensure successful coordination and facilitation of the Fund Development Committee to

achieve fund development goals. Serve as primary contact for the Fund Development Committee

members, reporting to the Executive Director on critical committee developments.

• Work with the Fund Development Committee to prepare Board reports and attend all appropriate

Board meetings, speaking on behalf of the Fund Development line of business.

• Participate on SAHG’s Leadership Team and collaborate with SAHG’s Fund Development

Committee and Board of Directors to set priorities, staffing, budget and work plans and define future

directions for the Fund Development Department and organization.



General Administration

• Oversee the maintenance of complete and up-to-date electronic and paper files surrounding all

aspects of fund development.

• Continue to refine the design of information storage and retrieval from the donor database.

• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

1. Experience prospecting, researching, cultivating and stewarding individual and corporate donors,

including major donors.

2. Expertise in fundraising and donor relations strategies and best practices, including leveraging social

media.

3. Strong relationships with foundations and corporations, ideally including those based in or serving

Washington State.

4. Strong grant writing experience.

5. Expertise in current trends in charitable giving in the area of major gifts and foundation, government

and corporate grants.

6. Proven event planning experience, either in hands-on capacity or oversight of others.

7. Experience with graphic design, branding, and/or public relations strongly preferred.

8. Experience with not-for-profit Boards preferred.

9. Experience in budgeting, developing work plans, and monitoring progress.

10. Proven skill in exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

11. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and superb presentation skills.

12. Leadership and supervision experience and ability, including proficiency in motivating others,

problem solving, managing conflict, and building consensus.

13. Ability to effectively manage a high work load, multiple projects and competing priorities.

14. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and an ability to work well under pressure

and with frequent interruptions.

15. Strong contributor to a positive and collaborative organizational culture that helps attract and retain

competent, caring staff.

16. High ethical standards and values.

17. Passion for the mission and goals of SAHG.



Minimum Requirements

1. BA/BS degree.

2. A minimum of 5 years experience in professional fundraising ($750,000 and above).

3. A minimum of 2 years of management or supervisory experience.

4. A proven track record in securing large donations ($5,000 plus) and increasing existing donor

contributions.

5. Competent technology skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc).

6. Experience with donor databases.

7. Certified Fundraising Executives (CFRE) with a social services or housing background preferred.

8. Valid WA driver’s license, reliable vehicle and valid auto insurance.

9. Pass a criminal background check.



Work Schedule

The Director of Fund Development position is a full-time salaried and exempt position. Hours worked

will be flexible, but will be based upon organizational need. Evening and/or weekend hours may be

required. Regular daily (work week) presence is required.



Salary and Benefits

Salary will be based on experience. Benefits include paid holidays, sick and vacation leave, company-

paid medical, dental and life insurance and 401(k) matching contribution.
