Retention and Graduation Committee Report from Subcommittee on Part-time Students
1) University surveys to date have not had a sufficient response from part-time
students to validate their concerns. However, a comparison of results of transfer
student, residential student and commuter student responses were compared with
the limited number of part-time student responses. The results indicated that the
number one most dissatisfaction is caused by “the run-around”. The second was
the amount of courses offered within their programs. The third was parking.
2) Initiate a chapter of Alpha Sigma Lamda, an honor society for non-traditional
college students during the Spring 2008 semester. Research the number of degree
programs that may actually be completed on a part-time basis in the evening or on
Saturdays. Advocate for a Bachelor of General Studies or Liberal Studies to
expedite degree completion. P.S. Charter Oak is eating our lunch. This would be
an advantage for adult students part-time and full-time. Increase the availability of
resources after 5 p.m. i.e., bursar, advising, admissions, financial aid. Increase the
availability of online CCSU courses during the fall and spring semesters.
Encourage extension of operating hours of the library and computer center during
the summer and winter sessions. Currently there are no weekend hours of
operation.
