Maybe you have heard about the Acai berry and Acai berry juice - Oprah recently called it the
number 1 superfood! This article is going to discuss some more of what Oprah and her guests Dr.
Oz and Dr. Perricone discussed on her show about Acai, and what you must look for if you want
Acai to benefit you in your life.
Dr. Oz on Oprah: Acai is an Anti-Aging Anecdote
Dr. Oz spoke a lot on Oprah about antioxidants and the key role they play in anti-aging. He told us
how antioxidants are contained in foods like tomatoes, blueberries and broccoli, but then he
introduced the Acai (pronounced 'ah-sigh-e') berry from the Amazon rainforest, and told Oprah's
audience how Acai contains twice the level of antioxidants found in blueberries. He also talked
about the importance of essential fatty acids, like the omega-3s found in fish oil and also other
EFAs found in olive oil. These essential fatty acids are also contained in high amounts in Acai
berry juice, maybe that's another reason he recommended Acai on the Oprah show.
Dr. Nicholas Perricone on Oprah about Acai: Acai is the #1 Superfood for "Age-Defying Beauty"
Dr. Perricone, the famous anti-aging doctor, talked about the importance of eating wild salmon and
halibut, as well as using powerful spices like ginger, basil, turmeric, garlic and cinnamon on a
regular basis. He also suggested adding free range poultry and eggs high in omega-3 fatty acids
to your diet. In addition, he said that yogurt eaten with fresh berries or Acai will not only "help your
intestinal tract," but that research has shown them to combat bad breath and help boost weight
loss. He called Acai the number 1 superfood for "age-defying beauty" and said that the Acai berry
was "one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world."

On Oprah's website, you can read a little more about the Acai berry and Acai juice. Oprah's
website tells you that Acai is harvested in Brazil in the Amazon rainforests, and tastes like
chocolate and berries. Her website also says that the Acai pulp contains many antioxidants that
help fight aging, "10 times more antioxidants than red grapes."
Important Information about Acai Not Found on Oprah
You can find a lot more information about the Acai berry and juice on many other websites or
articles besides Oprah, but if you decide to try the Acai berry, you need to know a few very
important things. First, most Acai products out there are inferior products and contain only a small
amount of the actual Acai. You need to look for a potent product made with at least 25,000 mg of
Acai per serving. Many Acai products out there contain fewer than 1,000 mg per serving. Second,
look for a juice product as that is how the natives traditionally took the Acai and got the benefits
from it. Most Acai powders and tablets lose much of their nutrients in the processing. In fact, you
often need 50-60 capsules to get 25 -- 30,000 mg of Acai, the recommended minimum serving.
Third, many Acai products are not made with the whole fruit: the meaty pulp, the seed and the
outer skin. These all contain important nutrients, and are traditionally used in making Acai juice in
the Amazon for medicinal purposes. Last, you need to look for a product that is not diluted with
water or other juices, nor contaminated with pesticide residue or toxic preservatives. So in
summary, for a potent Acai product, we recommend the following characteristics:
25,000+ mg of Acai In the form of a potent juice, not a pill Whole fruit used: pulp, seed and outer
skin Not diluted with water or other juices No toxic pesticide residue or preservatives
These are some things that Oprah did not thoroughly discuss that are nevertheless very important
if you are to find an Acai juice that will actually help boost your healthy and vitality.
