MILANO

Lombardia (Lombardy) is an important region lying north of Italy. The Capital city is Milano. This

region is to all effects a backbone of the country's economy. To the north of this region lies the

Swiss Alps and to the south the river Po meandering through the region into Emilia Romagna at

the south-western end. Milano which is its capital is the most frequented city in northern Italy

featuring a central hub for travelers and business men alike.

The two main airports in Milano are named Linate and Malpensa. Linate international airport is the

nearest to the center of Milano. This airport is smaller than the other and handles lesser traffic. It

practically connects Milano to the rest of Europe. The Malpensa airport is considered the main hub

of northern Italy connecting many intercontinental flights from all angles of the globe. Another

important airport of this region can be found in the province of Bergamo handling many low-cost

flights within Europe.

Buses are available transporting passengers from all airports to Milano Centrale which is the main

train station for departures to the rest of Italy and Europe.

The province of Brescia is another important location you might want to see. To the east of

Brescia lies Lake Garda which is always crowded for the hospitality and entertainment it offers.

Visit Sirmione and Riva di Garda, then Gardaland in Desenzano if you are looking for some fun.

Foods And Drinks

The cuisine is so rich and varied. For appetizers, the Filascetta, Pate di Cavedano, Savoiarda and

La Sciatt are served throughout the entire region. First plates include Risotto alla Milanese, Tortelli

di Zucca alla mantovana, Polenta alla valtellinese with cheese and lard, and Baccala alla

mantovana. Cotoletta alla Milanese is also worth trying. For red wines the most popular are

Marzemino Nailam, Ritratto Rosso, Pinot Nero Ritratti and Bolgheri Rosso Donna Olimpia. Others

include Sfursat di Valtellina Cinque Stelle, Sfursat 5 stelle DoppioMagnum and Sforzato San

Domenico.
