Just what is pay-per-call advertising and how can it benefit you? Is it better than pay-per-click
advertising? This article will examine some of the basic differences between the two services.
Both services can be utilized by businesses to advertise products or specific websites, and both
can be costly. Both can also be used by publishers to generate revenue from advertising on their
blogs or websites.
If you have a business and are looking to get the word out about your website or your particular
product, then one of these types of advertising might be what you are looking for. As an advertiser,
with a pay-per-click service you will have an opportunity to bid on different keywords. When that
keyword is typed in on Google for instance, then your ad will appear on the side of the search
results. An interested user can click on that link to your website and for that you pay a fee to
Google. In contrast, pay-per-call as an advertiser, you will be paying for qualifying phone calls.
You will distribute an 800 number through different web publishers, on billboards, park benches, or
wherever choose to put the numbers. You only pay for qualifying phone calls to the different 800
numbers. As the advertiser, you can decide the parameters that constitute a qualifying call.
Between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. only, and only calls from Texas. These are both examples of
how you could determine what a qualifying call is. Basically, the pay-per-click will run 24 hours a
day and will drain the account with every click. With the pay-per-call, you could potentially get your
advertising out there and pay substantially less because you only shell out money when the caller
qualifies.
Recently I used a pay-per call service through an affiliate site called commission junction. They
have a service that allows you to apply to programs, and after approval they provide you with a
800 number that has a special identifier in it that credits you every time someone calls that
number. It sound like a great idea and that it would be easy, but in comparison to traditional pay-
per-click advertising it is not necessarily the best way to go. From the publisher perspective, I
made no more than $4.00USD while running a pay-per-call campaign for 5 different advertisers
and I sent them over 10,000 impressions! That to me was not a good return for the traffic I was
sending them. For the same ad space with ads from AdSense, I could clear several hundred
dollars a month.
