SUBJECT: CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE FLOOD VICTIMS
(SPECIAL REPORT)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Over the course of July and early August 2010, Pakistan experienced the worst
monsoon-related floods in living memory. Heavy rainfall, flash floods and
revering floods have devastated large parts of Pakistan since the arrival of
seasonal monsoon rains on 22 July. Assessments of losses and damages are
ongoing, but estimates place the number of affected people at more than 14
million. Over 1,200 people have died, and at least 288,000 homes have been
damaged or destroyed.
IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVE
To save lives and reducing the vulnerability of Flood victims through provision of
timely relief assistance i.e. providing food packages, medicines, Team has
started their mission to assist the victims.
THE TEAM
SHARP/ALACII Team comprising staff, involving local people in needs
assessment. The participatory approach was followed throughout in this mission.
In which everybody contributed his part for the Flood victims and the most
vulnerable families.
EMPLOYEE DONATIONS
SHARP/ALACII team showed solidarity with flood victims and started struggle in
their personal capacity for the Flood victims. The response of the people was
amazing; the public society fully supported our mission. And they encouraged us
to start the mission in the whole country at large. According to the local
communities they wanted to donate but they need reliable source to distribute
their donations among the flood affected families
FUND RAISING
The idea behind the fund raising was to show that Lahore team is united in this
time of need and is making every effort in their capacity to help as much as they
can. SHARP/ALAACII employees have contributed funds of their own to
encourage civil society to donate, the employees of ALACII team have
contributed more than Rs. 75000/- including the contributions of civil society.
Similarly ALACII team has collected life saving drugs worthy more than 20000/-
for people of flood affected areas.
DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF ITEMS
After preliminary assessment ALACII decided to purchase food items for the
flood affected families to cover their needs at least for one month. And similarly
to provide life saving drugs to that flood victims. The ALACII purchased Food
items and packed them one bag per family; each bag was consisted of the
following food items:
Dry Milk ( 1 kg), Tea ( 500gm), Rice ( 5kg),
Cooking Oil (1kg), Date ( 1kg), Pulses (2kg),
White Grain (2kg), Sugar (3 kg), Soaps.
Distribution process took place in smooth way and completed well in time during
August 19 to 23, 2010. The food packages were provided to the most vulnerable
families with dignified manners. Privilege and ease were extended to Women
headed households, orphans, elders in distribution time.
