HIGHWAYS AGENCY THE M23 MOTORWAY JUNCTIONS 8 - 9 TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to make an Order on the M23 Motorway, in the County of Surrey, under section 14(1)(a) and (7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be – (a) to authorise hard shoulder running adjacent to the following lengths of the M23 when this is being used as one lane of the carriageway: (i) the southbound carriageway of the M23 between points 500 metres south of the centreline of the South Nutfield Railway underbridge (at marker post 35/5) and 10 metres south of the centreline of Crab Hill Lane overbridge (at marker post 37/1) south of Junction 8 (M25 Junction 7 – Merstham Interchange), and (ii) the northbound carriageway of the M23 between points 240 metres north of the centreline of Green Lane overbridge (at marker post 38/1) and 590 metres north of the centreline of Crab Hill Lane overbridge (at marker post 36/5) north of Junction 9 (Gatwick Interchange); and (b) to impose a temporary mandatory 50mph speed restriction on the lengths of hard shoulder described at (a) above when this is being used as one lane of the carriageway. These measures would be in the interests of road safety to enable contractors to install an emergency crossing point. It is expected that the work would last for approximately a week over a two month period starting on or after Friday 14th August 2009. The Order would come into force on 14th August 2009 and have a maximum duration of thirteen months. The hard shoulder running and temporary mandatory speed restriction would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
