							Sensitive tooth necks
Icy air, steaming coffee, chocolate cake - can it hurt? Some teeth react to cold, hot, sweet or sour with a
painful pulling. The reason may be an increased sensitivity or caries of the teeth.Even with leaking
fillings, crowns or receding gums, the teeth are sometimes hypersensitive. If the tooth neck is no longer
covered by the gums, or not enough, the protective layer of enamel, stimuli can freely penetrate to the
nerves.

Bared necks

Usually the tooth through the tough enamel, which extends to the gingival margin, perfectly protected.
Pulls back to the gums, however, it exposes the sensitive tooth neck. Dentin is traversed at this point of
thousands of tiny tubules that extend from the surface down to the dental pulp. Over the sensitive
dentine reach chemical and thermal stimuli to the nerve, triggering the hypersensitivity or pain.

Causes

The main cause of exposed root surfaces is a disease of the gums (periodontitis). In the course of this
chronic inflammation the gum pulls further and further behind.Even a false tooth brushing technique, or
a too high pressure of the toothbrush may have a negative impact: who firmly back and forth scrubbing
can injure the gums so that it withdraws from the tooth. This not only looks unsightly, but the necks of
the teeth is missing an important protective layer. Be involved in disorders such as nocturnal grinding
and pressing (bruxism) also appear on the exposure of tooth necks too.

As hard as the tooth is also wrong brushing can damage the teeth, even directly. Thus, wedge-shaped
defects in the hard dental plaster are hineingeschrubbt.

Paint and glue

The simplest protection against sensitive teeth, of course, they do not even appear to be. With proper
brushing techniques and the timely treatment of periodontitis and the risk of bruxism can be
significantly reduced.Pain due to receding gums can be treated. The dentist seals the neck of the tooth
with a fortifying fluoride varnish or contributes to a smooth thin plastic that seals the dentinal tubules.
Both procedures alleviate the hypersensitivity.

For home dental care, there are special toothpastes, their ingredients, the tooth strong. Ask your
dentist. In general, the root surfaces with time, become less sensitive to the bite and the gingerbread
heart is no longer quite so unpleasant. In some people, but the pre-damage is so great that bring only
cervical fillings or crowns protective permanent relief. For some patients, periodontal surgery are also
methods in which the gum is placed back on the neck of the tooth.
