Bleeding gums

Traces of blood in the strong bite of the apple? Reddish foam toothpaste after brushing? These are clear

signs of gingival inflammation. Sometimes the gums are also swollen, reddish, or changed so sensitive

that the brushing hurts.

The most common cause of bleeding gums is the inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) and tooth-

supporting structures (periodontal disease). To the attachment apparatus next to the gums are the root

or the jaw bone.

Gum disease can also be caused by hormonal changes (eg pregnancy), diabetes or thyroid problems

arise.

Oral hygiene is important

When you brush your teeth do not carefully and regularly, the bacteria multiply in the mouth. They

excrete increased amounts of metabolites such as acids and toxins. Particularly difficult to access

Pockets are a paradise for bacteria. The bacterial toxins (endotoxins) attack the gums and there is an

acute inflammation. The gums (gingiva) is colored red, swollen, bleeding at the slightest touch and

painful. Now you can create a vicious circle. As the gums when brushing your teeth hurts greatly, some

people forgo dental hygiene. They fear this would further strengthen the disease. But this assumption is

wrong!

Without good oral hygiene, bacteria proliferate even more and further irritate the gums. With the time

comes so out of gingivitis to periodontitis. The inflamed gums retreats ever further, and the bone can be

removed - at the end of the threatened loss of teeth.

The dentist

If you experience bleeding gums or hurts the gums when brushing your teeth, you should consult your

dentist. It begins with a thorough examination of the gums. With a special measuring instrument is the

depth of gum pockets are measured and recorded the bleeding, swellings or gum recession. On the basis

of radiographs can assess the condition of the jaw bone. This is followed by a targeted treatment of the

gums where the Entzüngsursache is eliminated. Among other things the inflamed tissue from the deeper

periodontal pockets is removed.

Properly clean

Brushing is important, but improper brushing can damage teeth and gums. Very hard toothbrushes can

irritate the gums mechanically. Also a wrong brushing technique has consequences, because mere scrub

violated the thin fabric.

Find out when your dentist cleaned using a suitable cleaning technique in which the best teeth and

gums is spared the maximum. Use a soft brush with rounded bristles and rotate them regularly for

about three months.Alternatively, you can switch from a manual toothbrush, an electric brush. Practice

but not too much pressure, but pressure-free, run the brush over the teeth and gums. Many electrical

Brush stop the cleaning motion when the pressure is on the teeth too big.

Tips for Bleeding gums

* Go to the dentist more often if you have bleeding gums. This applies even if the symptoms subside

after some time.

* Rinse your mouth with lukewarm chamomile or sage tea that inhibits inflammation, ranges but not the

sole rinse to combat chronic or acute inflammation of the gums.

* Also Myrrh tincture (pharmacy) has anti-inflammatory.

* Avoid spicy foods that irritate the gums also.

* Use a soft toothbrush, brush thoroughly, but do not scrub it, you can demonstrate in the dental

practice, a gentle brushing technique.

* Also in the care of the spaces between the teeth is caution - misapplied dental floss or interdental

brushes can injure the gums.

It's best to let it not come to that. Regular dental hygiene can prevent bleeding gums and inflammation.

Regular dental visits for the control and treatment of the gums not only prevent tooth decay, gum

disease but also before.
