Dual Credit

Dual Credit is defined as college classes that are taken in high school, which count as credit for high school and

college. Students who are Juniors or Seniors in high school may apply for dual credit classes.



Program Qualifications



 Be a high school junior or senior (exemptions do exist for students who demonstrate outstanding

academic performance; the Vice President of Instruction must approve)

 Meet high school or school district requirements for taking a dual credit class in addition to Victoria

College’s requirement of a “B” average

 Meet any required course prerequisites

 Permission from school and parent to take the course(s)

 Pass all sections of the THEA or a THEA alternative test, if they are not exempt



- ACT: 23 compositie, with 19 English and 19 Math*

- SAT: 1070 combined, with 500 Verbal and 500 Math*

- TAKS: 2200 Reading PLUS at least a 3 on Writing, 2200 Math*



*For College Level Math Courses, except MATH 1332 & MATH 1342, students MUST meet one of the below

minimum scores. As of Fall 2010, Math TAKS scores are no longer accepted.

Checklist for Admissions

A student's first step in the application process is to meet with their high school counselor to receive academic

advising on appropriate class selection. Students should then be ready to continue through the application

process:



1. Test Scores - Determine & verify student has the required THEA test scores, as listed on the Dual Credit

homepage. If a student needs to take the THEA or a THEA alternative test, please visit the Testing

Center for the schedule of test dates.

2. Application - Submit an application to VC's Pre-College Programs Office using Apply Texas.

3. Permission & Consent Form - Submit a FALL/SPRING Dual Credit/Early Admission Permission &

Consent Form from your high school principal and/or counselor and parent. SUMMER Dual Credit/Early

Admissions Permission & Consent Form

4. Transcript - Request and confirm most current high school transcript has been sent to VC Admissions &

Records office with all completed coursework through the sophomore year. For students entering their

Junior year for Fall 2011, we will accept the most current until the sophomore year is completed. These

students should then have their completed sophomore year transcript sent.

5. Financial Aid - If a student would like to be considered for the Dual Credit Scholarship, please check

both yes slots on the Permission & Consent Form. The student will need to have completed the FAFSA

to see if he or she shows a financial need. Students will NOT be eligible for grants or loans as this only

applies to high school graduates and GED completers. Please contact our Financial Aid office for more

6. Pay for Class(es) - Pay Tuition and Fees via the Pirate Portal online, by mail, over the phone (361) 582-

2569, or in person with College Central, Administration I Building. More Payment Information

7. Textbooks - Purchase required textbooks.
