DAY CENTRE AND SMART APPROACH STAFF TRAINING
As a registered service provider, we are committed to enhancing the service at all levels.
The Centre Manager is already registered with Scottish Social Services Council. This
became effective when the register for Adult Day Care Services opened in 2009. Staff
will also register at the appropriate time when the register for their role opens. A
requirement for registration is that the applicant is qualified to an appropriate level to
carry out their role.
A major factor for us as an approved provider is staff training. We are very fortunate to
have a stable staff team with few changes in personnel. The staff have between them a
vast amount of experience. However, we are dedicated to ensuring continuous
personal & professional development across all disciplines within each project.
The Management team have compiled a four year training plan. This allows them to
forward plan in order to cover both mandatory and individual skills development.
Annually we also create a training plan which includes any training needs highlighted
through the employee appraisal system.
In addition we create a record of actual training undertaken. This takes account of
training which may have either become available, or sought, over the financial year and
although not previously planned for, is deemed necessary or essential for staff
development, or to meet changing needs of service users.
An annual training review is held at Divisional Headquarters in February each year. This
is facilitated by the Learning and Development Officer and gives Managers the
opportunity to discuss any budgetary or other issues related to staff development.
The register opened in January 2011 for Managers of Housing Support and Care at
Home Services. The S.M.A.R.T. Approach Project is registered under both headings.
The Manager has completed all formal paperwork and has submitted a record of
qualifications to the Scottish Social Services Council for approval and processing.
All staff are aware that on completion of any training they should give a completed
Continuous Professional Development Record to their supervisor for endorsement and
verification that training has been completed and learning evidenced.
Each year the team participates in training events, research and professional
discussions which enhance their practice. This past year has been no exception and

It is to our benefit as employees that the Salvation Army recognises the importance of
ongoing professional development and to this aim set aside an appropriate budget for
training.
The management and staff within each project have committed to the learning and
development culture, which is fully endorsed by the organisation. This in turn supports
staff in their objective to improve both their skills and knowledge base.
