Harbor
A place on the coast where vessels may find shelter
protected from rough water by jetties, etc.
Bay
Part of a sea or lake that extends into the land
Cape
A point or
head of land

water.
Isthmus
A narrow strip of land that connects two larger areas of land
Strait
Narrow stretch of water than connects two larger bodies of
water
Peninsula
Area of land almost
completely
surrounded by
water and
connected to the
mainland by an
isthmus
Oasis
A fertile spot in a desert where water is found.
Mountain Range
A line of
mountains
connected
by high
ground.
Glacier
Huge, slow-moving mass of snow and ice

Basin
Depression in the surface of the land; some basins are filled

Large, flat area that rises above the surrounding land; at least
one side has a steep slope

Small raised area of land with steep sides

A large underground chamber, typically of natural origin, in
a hillside or cliff.
Cliffs
A steep rock face, esp. at the edge of the sea

High, flat topped landform with cliff-like sides, larger than a
butte
Rain Forest
a forest with heavy annual rainfall.
Swamp
An area of low-lying ground where water collects
Desert
A dry, barren area of land, esp. one covered with sand.
Savannah/Prairie
A large open area of grassland
