Lower Bridge Street Disabled Parking

Questionnaire

In 2008 Walsall Taxi Licensing office received a request from The Taxi Drivers Association

to relocate the taxi rank with Disabled blue Badge parking bays in Lower Bridge Street.

Walsall Disability Forum and Access All Areas have been campaigning against the move

of Disabled Parking in Lower Bridge Street in the Town Centre since 2008.

We consider from the survey and consultation we have conducted that this action to

relocate the disabled parking with the Taxi Rank in Lower Bridge Street would put disabled

passengers, drivers and carers in danger, by exiting the vehicle into oncoming traffic from

the passenger side, and the risk of tripping toppling and falling, by exiting the vehicle from

the driver’s side onto a sloped public highway and, despite either of these barriers, have

no safe way to cross the road.

We consider that there are 3 feasible options to choose from, that will give an outcome.

We would ask you to tick one of the boxes next to the options seen below, and return it to

us as soon as possible.

1. Agree to the current parking allocation on the left to change to 2/3 rd disabled

parking, and 1/3rd for taxis and the 1/3rd disabled parking bays lost relocated

to the rear of the taxi rank close to the controlled crossing at the entrance to

Lower Bridge Street? (Recommended)

2. Agree to the current parking allocation on the left to change to 2/3 rd - 1/3rd split

of 1/3rd taxi and 2/3rd disabled parking, with a reduction in parking bays?

3. Do nothing and allow the change of the disabled parking to go-ahead?
