The marketing batch of 2012 consists of 46 enterprising individuals from varied backgrounds such as Manufacturing, Consulting, IT, Hospitality, Engineering,
Entertainment etc. The diverse background and experiences adds a perspective to the collective learning of the group.A unique blend of participants with work
experience and fresh minds in the batch accords a multi-dimensional approach to them while tackling all academic problems.
Events And Initiaves
SMIA – SPJIMR Marketing Impact Awards was a unique event in which marketing initiatives are rewarded based on their impact. This event felicitates those
corporate houses that have solved a business problem or exploited a market opportunity with initiatives in marketing that are significantly different from the
others. The four finalists namely Maruti, GVK Retail, TATA Steel, Volkswagen who were to make case presentations before the jury were selected from 46 entries of
reputed brands through two rounds of internal short listing. This was followed by the panel discussion on the theme of making marketing accountableby the
esteemed SMIA jury that was graced by Dr. Nirmalya Kumar, Prof. of Marketing, London Business School, Mr. Madhukar Sabnavis, Country Head, Planning &
Discovery, Ogilvy & Mather, Mr. Partha Rakshit, Ex-MD, South Asia, Nielsen, Mr. Rajaram Narayanan, Vice President, HUL and moderated by Prof. M.S. Rao, Faculty,
SPJIMR.
Visage-Visage is a quarterly magazine that captures life at SPJIMR. It highlights snippets from the current marketing PGDM batch and establishes a contact
between industry and academia. In its attempt to connect the experience of a marketing study at SPJIMR to the real life industry exposure, Visage incorporates
"Alumni Speak" as a regular feature. Visage also has expert speak on contemporarytrends in marketing and showcases the many accolades won by marketing
batch of SPJIMR. Visage is a unique initiative by students of marketing at SPJIMR to bring to the fore the innovative marketing pedagogy and value based culture of
SPJIMR.
Second Innings - This event was the brain child of the participants from the marketing batch, and was based on making a re-launch strategy for products which
could not make their mark in the minds of the Indian consumer by reasoning out why the product did not sell in the Indian market.
Zehen - Zehen was a social marketing event,which was aimed at taking a look at the most pressing issues facing our society today which is relevant to our lives and
this event was truly original in conceptualization and execution.
Dream Merchants - Dream Merchants organized in association with and sponsored by CEAT, was essentialy an advertising and marketing based event which tested
the creativity and marketing abilities of the young minds through creation of print advertisements for promotional campaigns.
Marketing Interest Groups – The participants also formed interest groups based on their sectoral preferences to gain a comprehensive understanding of these
sectors. This was of sharing experiences across different domains paved way for the participants to understand real-life application of concepts.
Live Projects
The participants are given an opportunity to gain relevant field experience by working on live industry projects during the academic year. The project duration
ranges from 4-12 weeks. Company visits, field visits and research studies are carried out along with the regular academic schedule throughout the project
duration. At the end of the stipulated period, the participants present their analysis, suggestions, and recommendations to the respective organizations. In the
past, participants have taken up projects with organizations like Dexter Consultancy, Aditya Birla, Robert Bosch, Standard Chartered, and Krostini
