Question

Describe the population of peppered moth

in England before, during, and after the

industrial revolution? How is it Natural

Selection?

Answer:

• Pre I.R.

2 types of peppered moth (white and black). White is

dominate variety (hide on white birch tree) while black are the

lower # population (can be seen on white tree and are eaten).

• During I.R.

Pollution cause white trees to turn black. White variety moth

are now seen and eaten while the black moths are now

hidden. Decrease in White population and Increase in Black

population

• Post I.R.

Clean up processes after the I.R. not as much smoke in air.

Trees turn white, white moth hides and their population goes

up. Black moth is seen and eaten, population goes down

• Natural Selection because nature selected

certain traits to be passed on in a society.

The makeup of the population changed as

nature changed.
