FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 4, 2004
ROCHESTER BUSINESS OWNER SELECTED AS 2004
SMALL BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR
The City of Rochester congratulates Miles Cook, owner of Rochester Motor Sports, for
being selected as the 2004 New Hampshire Small Business Person of the Year. Mr.
Cook was recognized and his achievements celebrated on June 3 rd at the New
Hampshire's Salute to Small Business sponsored by the New Hampshire Small
Business Development Centers, the Small Business Administration and Citizen's Bank.
City Councilors Sandra Keans and Marilyn Berry were on hand to congratulate Mr.
Cook along with Economic Development Manager Karen Pollard.
Rochester Motor Sports opened in 1999 on Route 11 in Rochester and is already the
largest motor sports dealership in the state of New Hampshire. Honda helped Miles in
his selection of the Route 11 site in Rochester, and he is glad that they did. "I was there
(on Route 11) first and the visibility is great. Rochester is really growing and it's a good
place to be." In addition to business success, Miles was recognized for his charitable
giving. The 31 year-old entrepreneur thanked his fiancé Amanda, his parents and his
employees for his continuing success.
Governor Craig Benson was on hand to speak to all of the award winners about what it
takes to be a successful small business owner in New Hampshire. Also recognized
were Gary Hirshberg of Stonyfield Farm, Nannu Nobis of Nobis Engineering, George
Bald formerly of DRED and now with the Pease Development Authority.
Rochester hosts the Regional Office of the Small Business Development Center on
South Main Street. Mr. Warren Daniel, the Seacoast's Regional SBDC Director, is
based in the Rochester office and serves on the Rochester Economic Development
Commission. To find out more about SBA financing programs and staring your own
business contact the SBDC at 330-1929 or Karen Pollard at the Rochester Economic
Development Office at 335-7522 or karen.pollard@rochesternh.net. In most cases your
financial institution can also assist in putting together an SBA financing package.
