“Reaction with Integrated Extraction for Homogeneous Catalyzed Fluid-
Phase Reactions.”
Project Description:
The project is part of the research group „Integrated Reaction and Separation Processes“
(IRT) which is promoted by the “Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft” (DFG). The objectives
of the IRT project are the systematic and interdisciplinary investigation of integrated
processes. The part project 6 deals with the reactive extraction as an application for the liquid-
liquid two-phase catalysis.
Project Progress:
Based on laboratory experiments a reaction system, the palladium catalyzed telomerization of
butadiene with ethylene glycol, was optimized. Based on these investigations a technical
process was developed. This process will be realized in a mini-plant which is currently under
construction.

Work description:
To expand the knowledge about liquid-liquid catalytic processes a broader insight into
telomerization reactions with bifunctional nucleophiles is necessary. The aim of this work is
the development and optimization of further possible reactions for the developed plant.
Therefore batch experiments in laboratory scale are needed to find reasonable catalysts and
good reaction conditions as well as thermodynamic data. Possible reaction types have to be
realized in liquid-liquid two-phase technique, especially the telomerization reaction of
butadiene with phenols, diols and glycerine. After finishing the laboratory experiments the
implementation of the reaction into the continuous mini-plant is scheduled.
