textbook and Students may NOT use calculators in which they have stored formulas, equations, data, etc. in the
Course memory of that calculator.
Materials Students will also be expected to use Derive 6 on some problems.
But tests will be in two parts; some problems must be done without a calculator or computer.
Last Date of
Withdrawal
Monday, May 2, 2011
Students who miss a test or quiz should contact the instructor before the next class meeting. Students
who have an excused absence (see Standard College Policies sheet) should present documentation and
Make-up
policy
complete any make-up work within ONE WEEK of the last day covered by their excuse. Students who
will miss a test or quiz because of official school events must make arrangements for making up work
prior to missing the test or quiz. Documentation is subject to verification.
In addition to 3 major tests and the final exam, a number of quizzes will be given. Some quizzes may
Daily be unannounced. At least one quiz grade will be dropped. The average of the quizzes which are not
Activities, dropped will count 10% of the semester grade. Students who are tardy will not be given extra time
Class for quizzes or tests.
Participation, Take-home quizzes will NOT be accepted from a student who is late to class (after the
Pop Quizzes, instructor has taken up the quizzes and put them in their envelope) without a valid excuse that the
etc. student can document. Furthermore, if a student is late to class, then it is that student’s
responsibility to check with the instructor to find out if a take-home quiz was handed out that day.

Students are expected to be honorable in all college assignments. Suspected cases of academic
Academic
misconduct are reported to the Dean of Instructional Services. [Instructor’s note: Instructors may not

include any other information regarding academic misconduct on the syllabus. Refer to the SSCC 2007-09
Catalog for specific policies and procedures regarding academic misconduct.]
SSCC Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are registered,
to be prompt and to remain in class/lab for the entire time. Attendance will be recorded at every
Attendance class/lab meeting. On the final grade report, instructors are required to identify the last day of
Policy attendance for all students who receive a grade of “F” or “U.” Students who are unable to attend
class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should withdraw from the class.
Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid.
The Standard College Policies apply to all classes at the college and are a part of every official
course syllabus; each student receives a copy when he or she completes the vehicle
Standard registration/waiver procedure. It is also available from the College website, www.sheltonstate.edu. It
College is the responsibility of the student to have a copy of these policies and to abide by them. This class
Policies syllabus is intended to give further detail about the policies and expectations in this class. College
policies are also published in the Schedule of Classes and the SSCC College Catalog/Student
Handbook. Students are expected to be aware of and abide by College policies in every class.
All students who are or have been registered for classes at Shelton State Community College are
provided an email account. Students who are currently registered must have an email account.

Grading: Each major test will count 20%, the quiz average will count 10%, and the Final Exam counts 30% of the course grade. The Final Exam is
comprehensive and will cover ALL material. For students with no more than one unexcused absence, the final exam grade can be used as a
replacement grade for the lowest test grade if this replacement is beneficial to the student. All students must take the final exam. (Notice: the final
exam grade will not replace a test score of 0 due to a missed test with an unexcused absence.)
Percentage Student’s Letter grades will be assigned according to the following:
of Grades Score Percentage Grade Letter grade
Test One 20% 90-100 A
Test Two 20% 80-89 B
Test Three 20% 70-79 C
Quiz Average 10% 60-69 D
Final Examination (comprehensive) 30% 59 and below F
100%
SCHEDULE: The outline below may be changed at the discretion of the instructor. Changes will be announced in class.
There will be additional problems from handouts given in class.
