From points North:
I-81 in Virginia to Abington, VA.
Look for US-58. There are 2 exits marked 58. One is Alt. 58 the other is US
Hwy 58. Take the US Hwy 58 Exit. There will be a Cracker Barrel on the
West side of I-81.
Go 33 miles on US-58 East to Damascus.
Continue on US-58/VA-91 (Jeb Stuart Hwy.) to White Top, VA. (Approx. 15
miles) Hang onto to your hat. It is a scenic and twisting road.
Go 2 miles approx. and turn right on Mud Creek Rd. (State Rd. 600)
Go approx 1.5 miles to Big Horse Creek Rd.
Turn right and follow Big Horse Creek Rd. about 2.3 miles. Look for the Apple
Grove Church on your left. You will Y to the left and will start going uphill.
In about 2 miles you will come to a stop sign. Turn left onto Little Windfall Rd.
Pass the Pond Mt. Church and cemetery and look for a pair of stone columns
just a few hundred yards on the left.
You made it. You are here at On the Windfall. Look for the signs to point you
to your cottage.
From points South:
I77 North past Statesville to Hwy 421 North toward Boone.
About one mile past the strip mall district of North Wilkesboro along Hwy 421,
turn right at the traffic light on to Hwy 16 N.
Go approx. 15 mi. to the top of the mountain and about ½ mile past the Blue
Ridge Parkway turn left on Hwy 163.
Follow Hwy 163 to the traffic light intersection of Hwys 221/163/194. Go
straight at this intersection on Hwy 194 N. This will take you through
downtown West Jefferson and will merge with Hwy 88 about one mi. north of
West Jefferson.
Approximately 5-6 miles north of West Jefferson turn right in Warrensville
as 194 N continues to Lansing, NC.
At the traffic light in Lansing go straight on to South Big Horse Creek
Road and continue about 3 miles to the Tuckerdale Baptist Church that will
be on the right. (rebuilding after it burned to the ground) Here you will turn
left on Big Windfall Road.
Follow Big Windfall Road to top of mountain. Pavement will end and road will
narrow; continue past the Pond Mountain Primitive Baptist Church about 2/10
mile.
On the left you will see a red metal roofed barn across a pasture, turn in at
the stone columns. You are here at On the Windfall. Look for the signs to
point you in the direction to your cottage.
(note – do not follow your GPS. It will get you lost or take you for miles out of the way)
