Course Description:



Geometry A is designed for students who need to begin the study of geometry at a slower pace than the traditional Geometry

course. The course will cover the first half of the topics covered in the traditional Geometry course. These topics will include

the language and logic of Geometry, parallelism, congruent triangles, triangle inequalities, constructions, and quadrilaterals.

Students will then be required to take Geometry B in order to fulfill the Geometry requirement. Students who have passed

Geometry may not take this course for credit. This course fulfills the graduation requirement for one credit of Geometry for

the advanced academic or regular diploma.



Essential Functions:



Students must be able to:



1. Use formulas correctly.

2. Solve simple linear equations.

3. Evaluate an expression.

4. Raise a number to a power.

5. Round numbers to a given decimal place.

6. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbers.

7. Memorize certain material (formulas, rules).

8. Pay attention to detail (accuracy in drawings, etc.).

9. Use geometric concepts to set up and solve algebraic equations.

10. Transfer concepts from figure to figure.

11. Retain information. (Concepts in geometry have a tendency to reappear in different contexts.)

The grading scale:



90 – 100 = A

80 – 89 = B

70 – 79 = C

60 – 69 = D

0 – 59 = F
