Google E-Reader Pros and Cons

Today nearly, everything has gone electronic or digital which has led many to believe that books

are becoming obsolete. True lovers of the written word will be heartbroken by the idea; however,

progress cannot be stopped and it appears that eBooks are more than a passing fancy. If you

have not considered picking up one of these devices, it might be time to add it to your Christmas

list! The only problem here is which eBook reader you will choose.

Google E-Reader

Google teamed up with iRiver to produce their electronic reader, which is very much on par with

the third generation Kindle. Dubbed the G-reader unofficially, people are asking just how this

model will stand up against the stiff competition of Amazons Kindle line. Amazon has one distinct

advantage in that they have already achieved brand awareness. Of course, Google does have

their own dedicated fan base, which may overcome the late entry to the game.

Features:

Wi-Fi enabled

USB

SD card slot

1.4 GB Internal Memory

QWERTY keyboard

Long Battery life up to 3 weeks on single charge

E Ink

6 inch High Definition display

Pros

The one major difference between the Google eReader and the Amazon Kindle is the display, E

Ink is much clearer with 63% more pixels. Users also note that the Google device has much faster

page turns or less lag if you will.

Cloud storage is another plus, though other manufactures of these devices are coming on board

with the same capability. With the iRiver Story (Google eReader), you can begin reading on your

eReader and then pick up where you left off with a variety of devices including your cell phone,

laptop or personal computer. Most data is stored in the cloud rather than having to be

downloaded, which makes all of this possible. In addition cloud, stored material can be accessed

repeatedly, so if you drop your eReader in the bathtub you will not lose access to the books you

have purchased.

Cons

As a whole, this is an excellent eReader with many things going for it; one thing some people are

not impressed with is the fact that no other media is supported. This is for reading printed words

and nothing else, which could be a deterrent for someone who wants to access music, video or

even games as you can on the Kindle Fire. On the other hand, this could also be looked at as a

plus, especially for parents considering the device for children. If you want to encourage your

children or even yourself to read more, this is a great device.

Conclusion

So, should you purchase the Google eReader or head over to the competition? In all honesty, it

depends on what you are looking for. This unit was designed with a platform that is open to all

publishers, manufacturers and retailers. To date there are over three million free eBooks available

as well as hundreds of thousands in the eBook store. Do your homework but if you are looking for

an eReader that is easy on the eyes, lightweight and portable, this is a good choice.
