Module 1 – Understanding SEO
For SEO beginners: Do not skip this part.
For Experienced: You can jump directly to page 15. However, it's important that
you read this part to fully understand how search engines work since it is the key to
high rankings.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO is the combination of actions you
are going to take to get the best position (ranking) possible for your website on the
different search engines Like Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Ask and others.
When you perform a search in your favorite search engine (Google for example), the
search engine will return a page with 10 results. The page is divided in two parts: On
the right side, you have the paid Results (Adwords) and on the left, the organic
(free) results: the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). (see the screenshot below)

On the screen shot above, you can see the arrow pointing to the organic (FREE)
results. This is where your will propel your site.
You want your site to be on the very first page of the Search Engine results (on the
top 3 if possible), because most of the searchers will never dig in the pages of
results to find your website.
If your site isn't on the very first page of the SERP's , 93% of the searchers are not
going to find it, and you will lose a lot of free traffic and branding.
All the traffic that will come to your site will be free traffic.
SEO is composed of two main factors:
1) On-Page Optimization
2) Off-PAge Optimization
Why you want to focus your effort on Google?
Simply because Google has the biggest market share in terms of traffic.
Here are the numbers: Google: 44,1% | Yahoo: 28,7% | MSN: 12,5%. These three
search engines have the biggest percentage, and hence it's there that you will get
the most of your traffic.
In our Step By Step plan, we will focus on getting your site at the top of Google,
because it is the best search engine on the planet, and this is not going to change
anytime soon.
Here's a really good reason you should optimize your site for Google: Every other
search engine use the “copy the best” technique. Google earn billions of dollars
every year, and other search engines know that Google is the only one to follow.
So obviously, there is a high probability that what is working for Google will be
followed by others sooner or later, and hence, you can piggy back on what you did
with your optimization for other search engines.

search engines.
What about traffic from other search engines?
Don't worry, optimizing your site for Google will get you into MSN, Yahoo! And other
smaller search engine as well. You will receive visitors from every search engines
when you follow my Roadmap. Below, you find a screenshot of my search engine
report for June 2007 for on of my sites.
As you can see: 85,8% came from Google. Yahoo!, MSN and other search engine need
more links, and hence, your traffic from these search engines will grow overtime.

Because it is the only way to get your website noticed (except with paid advertising
and word of mouth). Every single day, web masters build thousands of new
websites... How will searchers find your site between these millions of sites?

You need to know how to play the game. Even if you learned what was working last
year (in 2006), it's not enough because the search engines invest millions of dollars
every year to give the user a better experience.
Web masters who were enjoying Top 10 Rankings in 2004, 2005 and 2006 or having a
hard time to keep their position.
If users are not satisfied with what they see when they search for something in
Google search box, they will head over Yahoo!... And hence, Yahoo! Will earn more
money since advertisers will switch to Yahoo! Paid advertising program.
Advertisers simply follow the crowd... The more targeted customers, the more
money they will make.
Although the SEO game changes at light speed, there are some rules that will never
change.
I mean: Deliver quality content. Your site must be a “must visit & bookmark” for
people in your niche.
When you deliver quality content, you can be assured that your site will not be
removed or de-indexed with the next Google update.
However, this is not enough. You need to deliver good content, AND you also need to
get your site noticed. This is what you are going to discover in this book.
About SEO Firms...
I don't know what they can do for you, and SEO isn't a rocket science. I don't advise
to put your sites in their hands. Most of them have only a basic knowledge, and you
will find many of them asking for advises on forums!
They take really outrageous fees for what they do. Don't get me wrong, some
companies are really good, however it's not recommended that you let your site in
the hands of other people if you don't have a clue. How will you know that their
work will deliver the goods?

How Do Search Engines Work - Web Crawlers
Search Engines use spiders or bots to index websites. A ‘spider’ is an automated
program that is run by the search engine system. Spider visits a web site, read the
content on the actual site, the site's Meta tags and also follow the links that the site
connects. The spider then returns all that information back to a central depository,
where the data is indexed. It will visit each link you have on your website and index
those sites as well. Some spiders will only index a certain number of pages on your
site.
The spider will periodically return to the sites to check for any information that has
changed. The frequency with which this happens is determined by the moderators
of the search engine.
To make it simple: a spider is almost like a book where it contains the table of
contents, the actual content and the links and references for all the websites it
finds during its search, and it may index up to a million pages a day.
Example: Excite, Lycos, AltaVista and Google.
What happens when you search for something
on your preferred search engine?
First, we need to understand what is a keyword:
When you search for anything on the Internet, you are using keywords: a keyword
can be one or several words.
Let's say that you are want to learn the Spanish language. You will open your
preferred browser: Internet explorer, Opera or Firefox, and then you will tape things
like:
“learn Spanish”...

“How to learn Spanish”
“I want to learn Spanish”
All these terms are called keywords. It can be composed from one word (like:
“Spanish”) to several words.
When you “ask” a search engine to locate information (let's say that you are
searching about spanish languages sites), it is important to understand that it is
actually searching through the index which it has created and not actually
searching the Web.
What does it mean? If your website is not indexed by the search engine, nobody will
be able to find it when they perform a search.
An example:
What happen when you tape this keyword in the Google search box: “Learn Spanish
language” (without the quotes)?
The search engine will retrieve all the documents that match your query from its
index (not from the web). In this case, Google will return every page which contain
the terms “learn”, “Spanish” and “Language”.
How search engines rank websites?
Each search engine produce different rankings since they use different algorithms to
search through the indexes.
One of the things that a search engine algorithm scans for is the frequency and
location of keywords on a web page, but it can also detect artificial keyword
stuffing or spamdexing.

Then the algorithms analyze the way that pages link to other pages in the Web. By
checking how pages link to each other (importance of anchor text), an engine can
both determine what a page is about, if the keywords of the linked pages are similar
to the keywords on the original.
Search engines also check the number of websites that link back to your site
(backlinks).
How to get top rankings BEFORE 2007
In the past, search engine used to rank websites according to their keyword density.
To rank well, you simply needed to add your main keyword for your page at the
beginning of your first paragraph, and then, include it in all your paragraphs. It was
also a good thing to try to get your keyword at the very end of your web page.
Savvy Web masters and marketers cracked the code, and started to crank out
softwares to help you to get top rankings. It worked for a while, and adsense
publishers earned good amount of money by getting good SERP's positions for their
sites until...
Google decided that it was enough. Like we said above, to stay in profits, Google
needs to deliver and give quality to web searchers. Their new algorithm was based
on incoming links, and not on keyword density (you still need keywords to rank, but
it's not so easy now).
Now, to rank well for your keywords, you needed to get a lot of incoming links
(called outbounds links) pointing to your site.
If many websites were linking (voting) to you, that was an indication that you had a
quality site with quality content, and hence, you deserved better rankings than
other sites with less or no links.
Again, marketers and adsense publishers cracked the code, and we saw the rise of
link exchange softwares, automated articles submitters and membership sites to get
top position on the first engines...
So why it is becoming harder and harder?

Obviously, Google want you to make money, because without your excellent website
on their index (and paid results), it would be difficult for them to earn.
The problem is that Google want to make more money than anybody else, including
you, other web masters and other search engines!
They want to stay the leader. The master of the game.
If you want to get a decent amount of visitors and traffic, you need to play with
Google rules, otherwise, your traffic will not last long. This leads us to my proven
and tested blueprint for 2007 and beyond...
How To Get Top Rankings and Free Traffic On
Demand in 2007 and beyond
Now, you are going to learn a STEP by STEP process to get your site on Google first
page for your main keyword, and get maximum exposure.
While this information is highly important to dominate the SERP's without any “Black
Hat” method, the majority of Web masters are not aware of these techniques.
Some of them DO know (or just heard) about the topics we will develop below,
however, they never figured out how to get these in a system that Google love and
approve.
Let's start now...
The first thing to do is to get a plan of action. Without a plan, it will be difficult to
get top rankings for competitive keywords.
Note: It's better to read the whole ebook completely, and then, when you
understand the whole process, you can come back, and start right away.
The truth about Page Rank (PR)

Page Rank is a specific value (from 0 to 10) given by Google to your website. Every
site who links to your wite gives you a “vote”. The more “votes” (links if you prefer)
you have that point to your website, the higher your Page Rank.
However, since PR is one of the factors that Google take in consideration when
ranking your site, you want to get it high.
Basically, the more high PR sites who link to you, the higher your PR will be.
Anyway, don't spend too much time checking your PR, you can do very well with
a site with a PR of 0, and thousands of PR 4 or 5 sites don't make a dime. Your
page rank is not bringing money in the bank, and you can make hundreds to
thousands of dollars with a site which has a PR of 0.
How to see the Page Rank?
In order to see your the page rank of any website, you need to install the free
Google Toolbar on your computer. It will be placed at the the top of your web
browser. It works with Firefox and Internet explorer. Do it now:

Note: you will need to switch on the PageRank display in the options. You will see a
little green bar appear above web pages you visit. See image below:
Google is not giving you a “real” PR. The PR that you see on the toolbar is not up to

date, it is a 3 months old PR! Google keep their datas secret.

A word about nofollow tags
I use nofollow tag whenever I add more than one affiliate link to my web page. This
helps to prevent PR bleeding (you lose PR strenght because of outgoing links). All
that you need to is to add rel=”nofollow” in your href tag when linking to another
page.

The very First thing you need to do BEFORE designing your website...
The Brillant Way To Carry out a proper Market
Research
You need to find a PROFITABLE market.
This is where many people fail online.
Note: I advise you to find a profitable market and stick to it. In 2007, it is better to
build a huge site (authority site) with high quality information and resource on your
topic.
If you add one page every single day to your site, in one year, you have 365 pages.
Plus you are building a solid business asset that will have a high value.
You will become a major player in this market, and dominate.
If you already have a profitable market, great. If not, read on...
Be aware that you don't need any keyword tool yet. This will come at a later stage.
You are in the brainstorming stage.
One last thing: if you plan to build a highly successful site, it is always better to go
in a niche in which you are an expert, or a topic that you would like to learn more
about.
It will be easier to update your site (you will not feel that you are working), and you
will become an authority in no time.
There are not many of experts on the web... There are many Self Proclaimed
experts. This is totally different.

Market (Niche)
If you are building a website to profit from it, before you start to build your site,
you should ask yourself these 3 questions:
1. Is there a market
If nobody is going to search for and find your website, don't build it!
2. What's their problem
Solve people's problem, and you will always have good results in everything you do.
Find their problem, and give them a solution.
For example, If you build a site about Forex Trading, it is because you want to help
people in that niche. Your can provide a website geared towards beginners with
tutorials, tips and advices for beginners like (http://www.babypips.com), or more
advanced stuff like daily alerts, advanced strategies and reviews like:
(http://www.forexbastards.com).
3. Is the market willing to pay

You want people to do something when they land on your website. They should take
action (your most wanted response – MWR), otherwise, there is no point in building a
website.
Your MWR can be:
1. Buying your own product,
2. Subscribing to your membership site
3. Clicking on your affiliate (and contextual advertising) links
4. Make a Phone call
5. Make a donation
6. etc...
Actual numbers you can rely on
If for a market of your choice, you find these 4 parameters, there is 99,99% of
chances that it is profitable. All these marketers are making money, and you
will earn as well.
Don't be afraid of potential competitors. Competition is good because it is the
proof that there is a market of hungry buyers. This is the only reason why people
compete to get a share of the pie.
1. Clickbank: Minimum of 4 books on your topic
Many savvy Internet marketer quickly crank out a product when they found a
profitable market. Just piggy back on their work. They took the time to get an
ebook on the subject and sell it because they earn a good income.
2. Adwords Ads: at least 8 ads running
Advertisers are paying money because they have a good ROI, otherwise, they will
stop (except if it is a big company with deep pocket, or someone who deliberately
lose money to crush his competitors)
In the mean time, you should check the ads, and analyse the websites and what they

If more than 50 thousands people searched for your keyword last month, there is a
good interest in the subject.
4. Offline Magazine ads
You need to go offline, and be sure that there are at least 2 magazines on the racks.

Carry Out your KEYWORD RESEARCH
Now that you found a profitable market, you need to find the main keywords for this
market.
You need to perform a keyword research. You need to target your site to keywords
that will end up in a sale for your products (or affiliate products, contextual
advertising).
What you did so far?
1. You brainstormed,
2. You checked the profitability of your market.
Now you need to find the main keywords for your site.
If you were searching in the martial arts niche for example, you have:
“Martial arts”, “Combat”, “Hand to Hand combat”, “Protection”, “Security”,
“karate”, “boxing”, “UFC”, “Judo”, “Weapons”, “Arms”, “Battles”, “Movies” etc.
Now, you are going to perform a keyword research with the Adwords Keywords Tool.
You are going to make a list of thematically related keywords:

Follow the following steps in order:
1) Build your keyword list with Google Adwords tool to get search engine proven
synonyms terms for the broadest term in your market.
--> Tape your keywords, and check: get synonyms.
Example: I search for martial arts:
2) When your search is completed, click: “add all” at the bottom (keywords are
sent to the right of the page)
3) Grab the related keywords (important). They are on the same page.

4) Then, do a search on Google for the top 10 sites under those terms.
5) Now, in Google Adwords tool, select: “site related keywords”.

6) Take the first URL from your research (in #3), and click: “get keywords”
(see the arrow in graphic above)
7) Click “add all” to add the keywords to your list (keywords are sent to the
right of the page)
8) Repeat the process (#4, 5 and 6) with the 9 URL left.
Then, you will use another tool to find even more keywords: wordtracker
http://www.wordtracker.com
Note: you are not obliged to use wordtracker right away, you can wait and do that
later, since you will already have hundreds of keywords to start building the pages
to your site.
With wordtracker, you will know which keywords to target since you will know these
two important parameters:
1. number of competing sites
2. number of searches
You will then target the pages with more searches and less competition.

It is always good (I do it all the time) to go to this website, and search for your
topic... And keywords.
About.com put thousands of dollars in keyword research since they are making
money from adsense and advertisers. The site is huge, and it will give you many
ideas.
Here is what you need to do:
1) Search for your topic, click on the red button on the home page.
2) Find the page for your topic:

4) Browse the pages as well, since it will give you many ideas for content. While you
are doing this, look at the anchor links.
5) Click on “source”, in “view” in your address bar
You will find many kewyords in the meta tags like that. Be sure to check the
tag as well.
6) You will also get many long tail keywords... See the long tail section below.
Do this for all the top 10 sites in Google for your keywords.
Another good website to analyse is Wikipedia. Like about.com, you need to find the

The truth about keyword softwares
You need to understand that a software is only a tool that will help you with your
keyword research. It is not going to do the brainstorming work for you.
They are a huge time saver. There are hundreds of keyword tools floating around,
but what you really need is the following:
I use wordtracker (both free and paid tool) and inventory overture (at the time of
this writing, it is still working, but it only return january 2007 results).
Now I use the Free Wordtracker Keyword Tool to quickly evaluate a market, or to
find keywords for my next blog post. It is excellent.
I also use another tool called Traffic Travis. It is very helpful to organize your
keywords in groups. There is a feature that let you spy on your adwords
competition. It let you know which keywords are running, and may be profitables.
You can then target these keywords for your SEO website, since you know that
people bid on these terms.
Another tool that you must use is Google External.
Important: Many SEO experts claims that the best keyword research tool on the
planet is Google External. I agree with them, and since I target Google for my sites,
it's working for me.

Why getting the domain name so fast?
Because the older the domain, the better. Once you found a profitable niche, head
over http://godaddy.com, and grab your domain name.
Note: Some people prefer http://namecheap.com because godaddy can take
ownership of your domain if you are reported for spamming for example.
Note: It's even better to register your domain for 2 years (or more). Search engines
will know that your website is there to stay, and not a spammy site.
Should you include your keywords in your
domain name?
It's not an obligation, and nothing proves that you will get better rankings if you do
this.
Choose a name with this two criteria:

2) Easy to remember

How To Be Indexed Quickly and Easily
Now you need to write the home page for your website. It is a single web page
(index.html). Just write a single 250/350words article on your subject from your
head It shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes.
Once you are done, upload this page to your web server.

other search engines.
Note: Your home page should have at least 250 words of text, and it should also

It will help you to make it easy for the Search Engine (Google and others) to find

You need to theme your site, and a proper silo structure will help you to do that. Do

of silos that you can find.
Go on about.com, and perform a search on the about.com home page, for spanish:

The purpose of the silo is to clearly state to visitors and search engines that this part
of your site is about this subject (French Grammar for example).

The visitor isn't confused, and since you researched for keywords in the section
above, visitors will bookmark your site because you give them what they were
searching for.
Search engine will notice that your visitors are returning visitors, and the will
reward you.
Your website will be built upon a silo structure. An average site has three to five
silos (or theme if you wish).
A silo is a topic of your website. Your home page (index page) will link to the landing
page of each silo (or theme). Each page within that silo will link to every other page
in that silo via a menu.
You don't want to link to another silo from a given silo. You don't want to confuse
the search engine.
You will need to base your silo in folders (it can be done in subdomains, but I prefer
folders). Each folder in a silo should have a minimum 5 pages to completely establish
the theme

Keep in mind that if you design your website with a proper structure from the
ground up, it will be easy to develop at a later stage.
The top category for your silos will be the keyword with the highest number of
searches per month (you will find this with wordtracker).

The articles within the silo will be long tail articles.
Introducing... The long tail
What is the long tail?
These are long keywords (constituted of 3, 4 words or more). If you don't have a
certain amount of knowledge in a given niche, it will be almost impossible for you to
find those long tails keywords.
This is why the keywords tools above are important (specially Google External). You
will also find many long tail keywords with wordtracker.
For example, if you are in the Weight loss niche, a long tail keyword would be:
“how to lose 30 pounds in a couple of weeks”
“how many calories do you need to cut to lose 2 pounds a week”
On the contrary, if you already know a lot about your topic, or If you are trying to
lose pounds, you already know many of these long tails keywords, and propelling
your site at the top will be even easier.
You will then write these articles in your How to Lose 10 pounds silo. You need to
add many articles like these. You will easily get top rankings for those long tail

It can add up quickly. For example, you find 10 long tail keywords like the two
above (and there are hundreds of those). Each of these keywords have 10 searches a

These are 5 pages that you will find on any authority site, and you should have them

Note about the sitemap:
The sitemap (sitemap.html) is a page which contain links (with the proper anchor
text) to every pages of your website. So if your page have 78 pages, these 78 pages
should be linked to in your sitemap page.
I use a normal sitemap on my main sites (Made by me, or by my website software).
Once you have 100 pages on your sitemap page, you will need to create a second
sitemap page (sitemap2.html), and link to it from the first sitemap page.
Note: Be sure that all the pages of your websites are at only three clicks from your
homepage. It's better to get them spidered easily by the search engines.

Now let's get content for your site. You can get content even if you know nothing
about the niche.
On the web, nothing is easier than getting content for your website or ebook. Here
are several resources I use to get ideas for content ultra fast:
Again, if it is your first website, it is a wise idea to choose a topic you are expert in,
because you will not need to search for content.
Generally, I start by doing a search on Google, then I check the top 10 sites for the
keyword I am targeting, and I end up with about.com.

How to organize articles on your website
Do you remember the silo structure?
If you have 4 silos on your site, you need 5 articles to start.
One article in the root directory (index.html). This one is your website's home page.
The other 4 articles are the top of each silo.
For example, if you are building a site about body-building, you will have:
1. Home page: bodyBuilding.com (= index.html in the root directory)
2. Silo #1: Bodybuilding.com/women/
3. Silo #2: Bodybuilding.com/men/
4. Silo #3: Bodybuilding.com/supplements/
5. Silo #4: Bodybuilding.com/equipment/
The article on your home page should explain what you have on your site, and the
categories links to the silos. The links can be in the menu, and should be in the
article itself as well.
The 5 other articles will go in each silo: an article in the women silo, another in the
men silo and so on.

Private Label Right (PLR) And the Duplicate
Content issue
If you are not that familiar with what Private Label Rights really is, Private Label
Rights allow you to make limited to unlimited changes to specific or all parts of a
digital product.
Changes can include:
* Changing the title of the article,
* Putting your own name as the author,
* Embedding your own affiliate links,
* Adding, removing and editing the content of the product.
Duplicate content issue:
When you use private label rights, many other webmasters will use the content as
well, and Google return only one of these pages for the search results.
Many experts claim that you need to change %15 to %30 of the content, add some
paragraphs (intro, conclusion, etc).
I prefer to stay on the safe mode. What I do when I use PLR articles: I read the first
paragraph one time, and then, I delete it and quickly rewrite this paragraph
completely with my own words.
It take the same amount of time, and you are not afraid of penality.
Note: PLR articles are just quick content. You can use those, but be sure to add
some useful tips and advices for the reader. Don't put articles on your site... Just
because you need to write an article.

Now, another important part of your strategy: optimizing your articles for both

A word about Keyword Stuffing
Keyword Stuffing isn't working any more, no need to tell you. You still need to carry
out an effective keyword research. What I mean is that the keyword density craze is
over.
Today, it is more subtle than that. Before, you needed to repeat your main keywords
in the first paragraph, then in all the other paragraphs, and so on.
You do need your main keyword. If you don't put it a couple of times in your page, I
don't know how you will rank for it... However, it needs to be natural, don't
concentrate only on the keywords you are targeting, write...
Only High Quality articles
People who stumble upon your site and read your articles should bookmark your site
and remember it. Your ultimate goal is to make a site that people would want to
share with their friends.
I mean that if there is a discussion about your topic on a forum, they will post your
link because they found a tremendous value in your website content. Don't try to
build a site for a quick buck, always keep in mind that your are building a business,
not just a website.
Before 2007, web masters were building hundreds of sites earning them $2 per day
(100 sites * $2/day = $200/day), BUT this is not working today.

What is LSI all about? A brief summary...
Google want to make money... A lot of money, and for that, they need people
like you and me to put thousands of dollars in their Adwords program.
Now, if all these MFA (made for adsense sites) and other crappy keyword
stuffed websites keep polluting Google Top 10 results, Internet users
(Google users) will change the way they search on the web because they
never find what they are searching for.
These web searchers will go to Yahoo! or MSN to search... And Google can't
accept it.
To keep their (BIG) share of the pie, they need to keep their users happy
at the two levels: FREE and PAID search.
They need to give the most relevant results. Google spiders will scour the
web and the top 10 sites for a given keyword, and then, the algorithm will
find all the related keyword.
Now, the algorithm knows (from the top results in the SERP's) what a good
article on this topic should be.
If your site doesn't have many of these related keywords on its pages,
Google will see your site as non relevant, because there is no “expert
verbiage” on your pages.
For example, if you want to build a site on Self Defense, Google will find
out if it is a good site by following the links within your site.
If you don't have sections about: Fear, attacks, knifes, protection,
security, children, women, weapons, Law, criminality, etc. You will be in
troubles.
You really need all these related keywords on your home page to rank well.
To get excellent rankings for your pages, you need to write excellent
articles, with all these related keywords.
Hopefully, there are some tools on the Internet that help you to do exactly what
Google (and every other search engines ) want: quality.

should be testing it. Don't fall for the words of any expert or Guru.
SEO isn't an exact science, and you may know things that no SEO expert on the

instance, you will here everywhere that onpage optimization is dead, blah, blah...

About Onpage Optimization:

1) Answer: Title Tag.
It's the title of your page (the keyword you want to rank for), on your HTML page,

About Off-Page Optimization
In 2006, off page optimization was more important than on page. Today, with LSI
and Silos, on page optimization is back. Add to this killer content and community
features, and you have a recipe for success.
However, it's not enough. Sometimes a site which is the authority, the best in a
given niche can stay unnoticed for months. You may find it after a period of time,
however, it's better if people can find your site right away.
For that, you need to work on your off page optimization.
Search engines catch up very fast, and as we saw above, they don't like to be
manipulated. That's why I am going to talk about something I don't bother with...
1) Reciprocal Linking
I receive many requests for reciprocal linking, however I don't link with other
websites for the seek of linking.
I do have a link section on my site, but if I link to another website, it's only for 2
reasons...
1) The site is a valuable resource for my visitors.
2) It's an affiliate link!
It's a win, win, win situation. Everyone win: YOU, Visitors, and search engines.
Of course, if an authority site ask me a link back, I will Exchange...
Good websites don't link to second class websites. Google is watching, so don't waste
time with reciprocal linking anymore.
Note: To attain higher rankings on Yahoo and MSN, it is good to have a lot of links.

If you are not familiar with the process, here it is: you will write 350-400 words
articles, and distribute them to articles directories.
It is the very first website promotion technique I learned, and I guarantee you that
you will get results.
You must submit an article per week minimum to the sites below. If you can submit
3 per week, it's even better.
Quality and original articles will help you to:
● Brand yourself
● Get tons of backlinks for your site (and blog)
● Increase long-term targeted traffic to your website
● Get more subscribers
● Get better search engine rankings.
I used to submit hundreds of articles with articlemarketer.com and Isnare.com, in
2006. I am not doing it anymore.
I found that it was more effective to submit to the top article directories.

I submit one article per week. I generally use the anchor text in the resource box of
the article for SEO purpose.You can add two or three anchor links in the bio box.
Note: Many ezine list owners will grab a copy of your articles, to send to their
subscribers. For this reason, it is a wise idea to ignore the anchor text and just leave
your website URL in the resource box from time to time.
Submit articles to authority sites in your niche
Another overlooked techniques is to contact directly big websites in your niche, and

ask them if they would like to have exclusive experts articles written by you (or your
ghostwriter).
This is powerful because you will get backlinks, traffic and branding in the same
time.
It's easy to do, just write a killer article on your subject, with a link back to your site
in the author resource. You can start to ask to about.com for example.
4) Submit to paid web directories
You need to get your site listed in the top directories, Yahoo, MSN and Dmoz will
help your Google search engine rankings.
Directories will not bring you a lot of direct visitors, but it is worth it in the long
run. Add to this that most of your competitors will not do it. It will give you an
unfair advantage.
Remember that a good quality link will be much more beneficial than hundreds of
smaller and irrelevant links.
Note: If your goal is to earn an income with adsense and/or other contextual
advertising, wait before adding the ads on your site until you are accepted to the
directories. If your site seems like an MFA (Made for adsense site), many directories
will not accept you.
Before you submit to directories, you need to prepare yourself:
Open a .text file (notepad,...) and write and save the following:
1) Your name
2) Your Site URL
3) Your email address (recommended: same domain as your site
4) Title of your website (your keyword)
5) A list of keywords
6) A short definition (150 words)
7) A longer definition (250 words)

Signature links, or forum posts don't help much with PR or Rankings but they will
serve as a direct source of visitors if your sites are relevant to forum topic.

Here is a tip for your forum sig file. It's simple, but almost nobody is doing this.
Believe me, it works like gangbusters.
1) Write a short and valuable PDF FREE report.
2) At the end of this report, add an opt in form.
3) Inside the report, add links to your site and other products (affiliate products

4) Start a new thread, and post your report (you must be trusted and respected
in the forum first. If you can't wait, add the report directly in your sig instead)

8) Blog comments
Blog comments are good for traffic. Some of the blogs use the dofollow plug-in. You
will profit in term of backlink.
Note that wordpress and other blog platforms use nofollow because of all the splogs
(spam blogs). That means that the link to your blog will not help you directly in
terms of rankings. However, you will get noticed in your niche, and blogs will link to
you naturally if you have good content.
9) Press Releases
You should submit press releases (once a month is a good rule of thumbs), it will
bring you traffic, visitors, and valuable backlinks if you choose to submit with
