Course Number: 003506 IB Chemistry
Course Description:

Advanced Placement/IB Chemistry is a laboratory-intensive course covering most topics of a first year college chemistry
course. These topics include greater in-depth study of atomic theory, stoichiometry, kinetics, equilibrium, thermodynamics,
electrochemistry, organic chemistry and nuclear chemistry. The Advanced Placement Course of Study published by the
College Board will be used as the guide for this course. To earn credit for IB Chemistry, students must be enrolled in the IB
Programme. Students who wish to earn advanced placement college credit must take and score well on the AP Chemistry
examination. To earn weighted credit, students must take the AP Chemistry examination. These courses fulfill the
graduation requirement for two credits in physical science for the advanced academic diploma. Content in science courses
will change with the implementation of the new Alabama Course of Study: Science for the 2006-2007 school year.

Essential Functions/Course Objectives:

Expectations:
Science Department of Curriculum & Instruction
                                                                                                   Tuscaloosa City Schools
                                                                                                        www.tusc.k12.al.us

Grading:

The grading scale:

           90 – 100 = A
           80 – 89 = B
           70 – 79 = C
           60 – 69 = D
           0 – 59 = F

The final grade for each six-week grading period will be based on various methods of assessment. These may include, but are
not limited to, tests, homework, journals/logs, projects, portfolios, essays, organized notebooks, computer assignments,
quizzes (announced and unannounced), and class participation. The final course grade will be determined by averaging the
three 6-weeks grades and the final exam grade together (each counting 25%).
