The revolutionary Aqua-Blade performance swimsuit was first launched back in the mid 1990s.
Basically, this suit represented the beginning of the fast swimsuit revolution. The main idea theory
behind this innovative swimming suit is that the fabric repels water and alternates unique textures
of fabrics to create a water-channeling and drag-reducing effect. This particular swimsuit was
responsible for a lot of world records back in mid 1990's.
Although this performance swimwear may not be up to date technology, they are still quite good,
and are a great value at less that $60 for the women's and less than $50 for men's. They fit
perfectly, however, keep in mind that the jammers run longer than what you might be used to, and
the women's swimsuits can be a bit tighter across the chest.
Back in the early 2000s, the world renowned swimwear manufacturer Speedo launched its new
line of swimsuits called the Fastskin. Like fashion, the outward appearance and characteristics of
the product have undergone many changes over the years. Needless to say, the original Fastskin
suit is no longer in production. It was replaced with the FSII suit which works on the similar basic
principles.
This swimsuit is manufactured of spandex and Lycra (Lycra fiber is a man-made elastane fiber),
and is copied after shark skin in order to reduce drag while swimming. The fabric is especially
developed to reduce muscle as well as skin vibrations, which saves precious swimmer's energy
and, of course, reduces drag. Because of this, it is crucial that the suit fits very tightly.
Therefore, in case your standard competitive swimsuit is quite tight (you are not able to pull the
straps more than 1'' off of thee shoulder and also cannot fit more than one finger in the waist for
men), in that case stay with the same size on the FSII suit. Otherwise, think about going down one
size. Just keep in mind that when the swimsuit shows up that it is supposed to be very tight. Also,
as you probably already know, it is a great idea to take the swimsuit off in between two races.
For girl's swimsuits, in case you're broad across the shoulders and chest relative to your waist and
height, try taking a size up. It is good to know that women's Fastskin swimsuits are around $100,
jammers around $120, and briefs around $35 on Amazon.
