EXT. SCHOOL PARKING LOT – NIGHT (7:00)

Tommy and Rachel, 35 and 33, hold their 8-year-old

daughters hands as the three walk to their car. Tommy

proudly leans over to talk to KYLIE as she swings from

their hands, ecstatic from the school play.

Tommy

You did great butterfly.

RACHEL

Yes you did honey.

Kylie is wearing a butterfly necklace that dances as she

does.

EXT. SIDE OF ROAD - NIGHT (7:30)

Tommy lies unconscious on the ground. Cuts overwhelm his

face as blood seeps down to the shattered glass on the

ground. A loud, excruciating cough erupts, bringing him

quickly back to consciousness.

EXT. SCHOOL PARKING LOT - NIGHT (7:00)

As the three reach their car, Rachel begins to step inside

the passenger seat; Tommy gives her a playful smack on the

butt. He then helps Kylie into the backseat of the car.

INT. CAR – NIGHT

Tommy kisses Kylie’s forehead and then gets into the driver

seat and starts the car, smiling at Rachel.

EXT. SIDE OF ROAD – NIGHT (7:30)

Tommy raises and limps horribly as he musters all of his

strength to get back to the car.

He yells out their names in-between breaths.

TOMMY

Kylie! Rachel!

2

His voice trembles as he rushes to the car, spitting out

blood on his way.

Rachel sits motionless and unconscious in the passenger

seat.

Tommy opens her door and reaches for her, slapping her on

the face with tears streaming down his cheeks.

TOMMY

Rachel! Rachel! Wake up baby. Please

wake up!

Tommy puts his left hand around her waist and begins to

pull, causing Rachel to fall on top of him. Her lifeless

face presses against his, as they lay motionless on the

cold cement.

KYLIE (MUFFLED)

Daddy?!

TOMMY

I’m coming baby! I’m coming!

Tommy lays Rachel to the side gently, using his jacket to

cushion her head and quickly circles around to the back

seat to help his daughter.

Tommy then covers a deep cut on Kylie’s leg. She is crying

hysterically. Tommy looks straight into her eyes.

Tommy frantically takes her, in both arms, from the car and

lays her on the pavement as blood trickles from his face to

hers.

KYLIE

Daddy you’re scaring me!

Tommy wipes the blood from his face

TOMMY

It’s me baby, it’s me, see. It’ll be

okay, Kylie. You’re going to be okay.

Look at me. Look at me. you’re fine.

3

KYLIE

Where’s Mommy?

TOMMY

She’s fine baby. You’ll see her soon.

An ambulance arrives from the distance with SIRENS blaring.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

Tommy appears laying in a hospital bed with Rachel in the

bed to his right. Dizzy and sedated, he reaches his left

hand, with his wedding ring on it, out for her. Tommy lifts

his hand, but can’t gather enough energy to fully extend

his arm. Tommy’s arm then collapses as he passes back out.

The next day Tommy opens his eyes again to a blurry

flashlight held by DOCTOR CARLYLE. The flashlight goes away

as his eyes try to focus on the doctor looking over him,

examining a clipboard. We hear the doctor mutter

incomprehensible medical jargon as he exits the room.

Tommy turns to the left and sees Kylie, sitting on her

mother’s bed with a broken arm, white bandages around her

head and leg, along with minor bruises. She turns to see

her father awake.

Kylie quickly jumps off her mother’s bed to her father’s

bedside.

KYLIE

Daddy!

Kylie takes Tommy’s left hand, with his wedding ring on it,

and rubs it on her face.

Kylie pulls out a drawing of a mysterious group of people.

KYLIE

Daddy I made this for you. Sorry it’s

all sloppy I couldn’t use my good

hand. That’s me, you, mommy, and…

4

NURSE enters and interrupts.

NURSE

Come on Kylie. Your daddy and mommy

need some rest so they can get

better, okay? Your grandma is waiting

outside.

Tommy fades back out.

Tommy abruptly wakes up to Kylie SCREAMING, CRYING, and

fighting while nurses rush her from the room. The doctors

frantically hover over Rachel’s bed trying to resuscitate

her as we hear a FLATLINE over the SCREAMS. He uses all of

his energy to fight the IV and reach for his family. Tommy

fades back asleep.

KYLIE

Daddy Make them stop!

Tommy responds with a whisper that no one hears.

TOMMY

Rachel…Rachel

INT. HOSPITAL – DAY (LATER)

The next day Tommy slowly opens his eyes briefly to an

empty room.

DOCTOR CARLYLE

Mr. Heinz, we’re going to sedate you

and move you into an operating room

for surgery.

Tommy passes out.

FADE TO BLACK:

A hospital machine goes from beeping steadily to beeping

really slow and finally stops. You hear faded voices over a

black screen screaming orders for resuscitation.

5

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Tommy appears in a hospital gown, distraught in an

unfamiliar, completely furnished, white room with a

heavenly light and feel.

Tommy sees multiple blown up pictures and collages from key

points in his life: from baby pictures to wedding pictures.

Tommy looks at the couch where his childhood blanket rests

and he approaches and grabs it. He smells the blanket like

it’s the first time in years, while questioning how it got

there. To the left of the couch he notices his childhood

baseball inside his glove on a white nightstand engraved

with his initials “TH.” The nightstand also has a wide

array of his childhood trophies. He is unaware of an OLD

MAN in a white suite in his 60’s watching him from his

side. He puts on the glove and with his other hand softly

tosses the ball in the air.

OLD MAN

Having fun…?

Tommy, surprised by the voice, takes his focus off the

baseball as it falls from his glove and drops to the floor.

Tommy stares at the Old Man as he approaches one of the

pictures on the wall and straightens it.

OLD MAN

We helped you do all this.

The Old Man continues to walk around the room examining the

pictures. He turns and looks to Tommy as if he is staring

right through his soul.

The Old Man walks over to the dropped baseball and picks it

up, examining it closely with a straight face. The Old Man

tosses the baseball and it hits him in the chest before

slowly rolling back to him. Both of the men watch the ball

roll.

TOMMY

Who are you?

6

OLD MAN

There are no such things as names

here.

TOMMY

Where am I?

The Old Man picks up the ball and places it in Tommy’s

glove before walking over to a picture of Kylie and Rachel.

TOMMY

Where are Kylie and Rachel?

OLD MAN

You tell me. You created this.

TOMMY

I have never been here before.

Old man

You stood right here once, and we

went over your life’s contract before

you entered that world. You created

and chose everything; from your

purpose to you’re personality. Even

your parents and your exits.

Tommy

Exits?

OLD MAN

Yes, Everyone gets three. The exits

are scattered along your life. There

they call them near death

experiences. If you are not on the

right path to achieve your purpose

when your exits come, you can choose

to transition, ”die” as they say on

the other side. Then they meet with

me and we go over a new contract, new

body, and a new purpose. This exit

was the crash.

OLD MAN

Rachel lived her purpose. The young

one… still has to accomplish hers.

7

TOMMY

What?

Old man stares through the eyes of Tommy and pauses.

OLD MAN

We don’t like to use the word death.

It’s more of a transition into a new

life.

Tommy, thinking he’s in a dream, frantically searches for

an exit amongst the white walls.

TOMMY (MUTTERING)

Wake up, wake up, wake up!

OLD MAN

The one thing you can’t escape in

either realm is your own self-being.

I’m afraid this is the reality. The

other side is what’s surreal.

Tommy stares back blankly.

OLD MAN (CONTINUED)

You chose this. We all are sent there

to learn emotion. We are not humans

living a spiritual journey, but

spiritual beings living a human

journey. My purpose…

TOMMY

My purpose is to love my wife, to

love my girls. I want my girls.

OLD MAN

Just because they’re not in the

physical form doesn’t mean they are

not there. You believe in wind don’t

you? You can’t see it, but you can

feel it. It still exists. They till

exist.

TOMMY

I want my girls!

8

OLD MAN

Just one.

TOMMY

Excuse me?

OLD MAN

I can only allow you to pick one. You

can stay here in this realm and be

with Rachel and all of your other

loved ones…or go back to that world

and be a father to your daughter.

The Old man looks up into Tommy’s eyes.

OLD MAN

If you return, you may not have full

use of your physical body. Once you

go back the soul and nervous system

fight each other, not knowing what

realm it is in.

The Old Man pauses.

OLD MAN (CONTINUED)

You have to choose.

TOMMY

Fuck you.

Pictures begin to fall from the walls.

OLD MAN

I will make this decision for you if

need be. You can’t go against your

contract.

TOMMY

Watch me.

Tommy catches a glimpse of his wife behind a large group in

heaven and stares at her. He races towards her and fights

his way through the crowd of passed loved ones. He pushes

them away as they all try and hug him. Tommy finally stands

face to face with Rachel.

9

He caresses his hand along her cheek as Rachel gently

kisses it. They both lean in and touch foreheads as their

lips graze and their eyes meet.

TOMMY

You look like an angel.

Rachel smiles and takes Tommy by the hand back to the

others, as he is overwhelmingly being greeted and hugged.

Tommy looks back to the Old Man.

Rachel steps right in front of him, looking into his eyes

blocking the old man from Tommy’s sight. She leans and in

whispers in his ear.

RACHEL

I’m not scared anymore. You shouldn’t

be either.

They now stand in empty space, alone. They lie down next to

each other, staring into each other’s eyes without saying

another word. They caress each other’s faces, hair and

arms.

Rachel begins to smile. She gets up fast as she can and

starts to sprint. Tommy gets up to chase her.

TOMMY

Where are you going? Wait up.

Tommy tries to catch up as she laughs. Rachel reaches the

room with all the pictures. Tommy finally catches up and

stands beside Rachel as they look at the pictures of there

life together. They walk all along the room until they get

to a wall where no pictures are hung. They both stare at

this empty space as Rachel begins to lose her smile.

RACHEL

Tommy, you have to go choose to go

back.

TOMMY

Yes, we gotta get out of here.

RACHEL

I can’t, My contract was up.

10

TOMMY

I’m not leaving you.

RACHEL

You have a responsibility. We have a

daughter, you have so much more to

live.

Rachel looks at the empty wall.

RACHEL

I wont let you stay here.

TOMMY

I can’t do this without you. I can’t.

I can’t do it. I need you.

RACHEL

I am here. I am with you. I’m a part

of you.

TOMMY

I want to stay here. You were scared

before I came, you said so yourself.

RACHEL

And Kylie wont be? Losing the both of

us…

TOMMY

You guys were the reason for waking

up everyday and breathing every

second.

RACHEL

And there’s still one reason to do

all those things.

TOMMY

I-

Tommy starts to cry.

11

RACHEL

We don’t want you here…I don’t want

you here... not yet. You need to fill

this space. Pictures of Kylie will

fill this wall.

TOMMY

I want to fill it with you too.

RACHEL

We have eternity to decorate walls.

Your contract will go by quick… It

always does. I’ll be here waiting…

Tommy continues to cry as Rachel wipes away his tears. The

Old Man approaches the both of them.

OLD MAN

Your choice?

Tommy looks at the Old Man then back at Rachel. He leans

into Rachel as if he were about to kiss her, but refrains.

He starts to whisper something in her ear. He then looks at

her and stares. He starts to walk backwards towards the Old

Man while still looking at her. His clothing slowly becomes

blood soaked as he walks away.

INT. HOSPITAL - DAY

Tommy wakes up and looks at the blurry angel face of his

daughter. He looks at her and smiles.

TOMMY

Hi butterfly.

KYLIE

Are you feeling better? I made this

for you.

Tommy picks up the picture with everyone from her heaven.

TOMMY

Who are the rest of these people?

12

KYLIE

They were my friends from a dream I

had, they said they didn’t have

names.

Tommy smiles. He then looks to his left towards his wife’s

empty bed and smiles again.

THE END
