U.S. Coast Guard Academy earns 15th spot in the report’s Best
Undergraduate Engineering Programs category
U.S. News and World Report ranks undergraduate programs accredited by the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The overall and specialty rankings
are based solely on a spring 2009 peer survey of deans and senior faculty. Two surveys
sent to each program asked respondents to rate the programs they are familiar with on a
scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished).
Methodology behind the rankings
The 2010 America’s Best Colleges rankings provide the most thorough examination of
how more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools nationwide compare on a set of 15
widely accepted indicators of excellence. Among the many factors weighed in
determining the rankings, the key measures of quality are: peer assessment, graduation
and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni
giving and graduation rate performance.
