POWER SQUADRONS ELECT ROBERT A. BALDRIDGE
AS NATIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER
The United States Power Squadrons® has selected Robert A. Baldridge of
Baton Rouge to be its new national Administrative Officer. At their national
meeting in Orlando, delegates of America’s largest safe boating education
organization chose this local leader for the two year post under Chief Commander,
Dr. Frank A. Dvorak, of Belleview, Washington. As National Safe Boating Week
takes place starting May 22 the new leadership emphasized the Power Squadron’s
widely heralded Boat Operator’s Certificate Program of on-the-water boating
education, as a national priority.
A native of Baton Rouge, Commander Baldridge earned his college degrees
including an MBA from Louisiana State University. He is President of Wilson
Warehouse Company that serves the logistics needs of the chemical industry in
Louisiana and West Texas. He is currently the Vice President of the Southeast
Warehouse Association.
His long involvement with the United States Power Squadrons began as a
college sophomore when he attempted to convince his father that he could safely
operate the family boat. He has devoted years to training community members to
reach that standard and has developed computer systems support services to aide in
squadron efforts. He led a huge area as District Commander, which included
significant sections of Louisiana and portions of Mississippi and Florida. He
served as aide to four Chief Commanders of the organization and recently
completed a three year term as National Secretary. Robert Baldridge and his wife
Nancy with sons Taylor and Noah enjoy boating aboard their SeaRay, MUCH
ADO, sailing the rivers, lakes and Gulf Coast of their native state.
The United States Power Squadrons began in 1912 as a division of the
Boston Yacht Club to train the owners of the newly available recreational power
boats to operate them safely. Two years later that squadron became a national
movement that continues in its 97th year of service. Today its 40,000 volunteer
serve local communities, boating organizations and the United States Coast Guard
to maintain high standards of boating operation in all fifty states, the U.S.
territories, and Japan. Numerous courses and a wide variety of boating seminars
are offered through the recently formed, USPS University.
You can reach the Power Squadrons at www.usps.org for all your boating
education needs. Its members remind us: “Boating is fun…We’ll show you how!”
