Constitution of the North of England Universities Archery League

l) Title
The title shall be “The North of England Universities Archery League” or “NEUAL”.
2) Purpose
To further the sport of archery within the universities of the North of England.
3) Membership
i) Membership shall be open to any person eligible for BUSA from the
universities in the BUSA Northern Region.
ii) Membership may be withdrawn from any archer for „Conduct
Unbecoming‟ a NEUAL Archer.
iii) League membership is open to any archery club affiliated to the sports
union (or equivalent) of a BUSA Northern Region university.
iv) Membership of the league is subject to a £10 membership fee.
4) NEUAL Events
i) NEUAL will organise 4 competitions per year:
a) Indoor League
b) Novice (Indoors) Championships
c) Indoor Championships
d) Outdoor Championships
ii) Shooting will be conducted under GNAS rules of shooting except that X‟s
will be scored at Indoor competitions.
iii) Only NEUAL members are eligible to shoot.
iv) *Standard scoresheets shall be used at all competitions.
v) *Double scoring shall be used at all NEUAL championships.
vi) *Host clubs should fill in an income/expenditure account form and send
this, along with any profit to the NEUAL Organiser.
vii) *A guidance document will be held and followed by any club hosting a
Championship or League match.
5) Event Regulations
i) Each University may enter one recurve team of 4 and one novice recurve
team of three.
a. A team may be mixed or unmixed.
b. A recurve team may include longbow and barebow archers.
c. Each team will consist of the highest scoring eligible archers from that
university.
d. A novice may be included in both the full and novice teams.
e. A novice team may only be made up of novices.
f. Teams shall only compete against teams and novice teams shall only
compete against novice teams.
ii) Compounds may be entered, but will only compete against other
compound archers.
iii) Scoresheets must be clearly marked with competitors name, university,
bowstyle and novice status.
iv) A Novice is an Archer who started shooting in the current academic year.
v) An archer may receive medals in both novice and open categories.
vi) Medals shall be engraved with the competition, year and category.
*Medals shall be shield medals with NEUAL centres. Medals should be
engraved after the championships for categories that may not attract
sufficient entries.
vii) The host club shall be responsible for the organisation of the shoot.
viii) A neutral field captain (e.g. a GNAS judge) shall be appointed and have
overall control of the shoot. If no neutral person is available, two field
captains from different universities shall be appointed to control the shoot.
ix) Entry forms should be sent out at least 4 weeks before, and entries
received no less than 4 days before each championship.
x) *Entry forms should be sent to all BUSA Northern universities, even if
they don‟t have a recognised archery club.
xi) Students at universities outside the BUSA Northern region may compete
as guests for „Guest‟ medals providing space is available.
xii) The results should be compiled, and sent to all clubs and individuals
participating, and a copy shall be sent to the NEUAL Organiser.
xiii) Additional regulations for events.
i) Novice Championships
a. The round shot shall be a Portsmouth round.
b. Only Novices may compete at the Novice Championships.
c. Prizes:
i. Novice Team 1st (3 medals) (with trophy), 2nd (3 medals),
3rd (3 medals).
ii. Novice Gents 1st (*with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
iii. Novice Ladies 1st (*with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
ii) Indoor Championships
a. The round shot shall be a Portsmouth round.
b. An archer may enter in more than one discipline, but only the first
round shot shall be eligible for recurve team scores.
c. Prizes:
i. Recurve Team 1st (4 medals) (with trophy), 2nd (4 medals),
3rd (4 medals).
ii. Novice Recurve Team 1st (3 medals), 2nd (3 medals), 3rd (3
medals).
iii. Gents Recurve 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
iv. Ladies Recurve 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
v. Novice Gent Recurve 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
vi. Novice Ladies Recurve 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
vii. Gents Compound 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
viii. Ladies Compound 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
ix. Gents Longbow 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
x. Ladies Longbow 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
xi. Other categories according to entry.
iii) Outdoor Championships
a. The round shot shall be a Windsor for Ladies (except compound),
and an Albion for Gents (and Ladies Compound).
b. An archer may elect to shoot the shorter round but will not be
eligible for prizes or for teams.
c. Prizes:
i. Recurve Team 1st (4 medals) (with trophy), 2nd (4 medals),
3rd (4 medals).
ii. Novice Recurve Team 1st (3 medals) (with trophy), 2nd (3
medals), 3rd (3 medals).
iii. Gents Recurve 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
iv. Ladies Recurve 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
v. Novice Gent Recurve 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
vi. Novice Ladies Recurve 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
vii. Gents Compound 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
viii. Ladies Compound 1st (with salver), 2nd, 3rd.
ix. Gents Longbow 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
x. Ladies Longbow 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
xi. Other categories according to entry.
iv) Indoor League
a. The round shot shall be a Portsmouth round.
b. The league shall consist of two parts, the full team league, and the
novice team league. The league shall consist of a series of two-
and three-way matches. All universities shall meet each other
university once in league matches during the season.
c. The league programme shall be constructed by the NEUAL
Organiser and circulated to all participating universities before the
start of the Autumn term. Alterations shall be circulated at least
three weeks before the first change (except for those caused by
universities leaving the league).
d. Hosting universities shall provide details of the match at least 2
weeks before the date of the match.
e. Hosting universities must make a minimum of 10 spaces available
for each visiting team. Additional spaces should be made available
if space permits.
f. Results of the match must be forwarded to the NEUAL Organiser
within 3 days of the match.
g. If a match cannot be hosted on the weekend specified, then it can
be re-arranged to another weekend with the agreement of all
universities involved and the NEUAL Organiser. If no re-
arrangement is possible, then the match shall be shot as a postal,
with scores being shot between the Wednesday before and the
Wednesday after the date of the match. Scores shall be forwarded
to the NEUAL Organiser by the Thursday after the date of the
match.
h. Points will be awarded for all league matches, the Indoor
Championships and, for the novice league, the Novice
Championships.
i. A team will score 2 league points for a win, 1 league point for a
second place, 0 league points for a third place. If teams are tied on
points, hits, golds and Xs at the end of a match, the points shall be
split between them. 1 league point will be awarded for attending
each match or Championship. League position shall be decided on
league points, and if tied, then aggregate score, attendances, firsts,
and seconds.
j. Team medals shall be presented to the top three teams in the league
at the end of the season. One medal shall be provided for each
archer that has made the team {*at least twice} in the course of the
season.
k. Team trophies shall be awarded to the top team in each league.
l. Top scorers medals shall be awarded for gents recurve, ladies
recurve, novice gents recurve and novice ladies recurve. The top
three in each category shall be decided on the sum of the best three
(four for novice) scores made by each archer.
6) Trophies
i) All trophies must be kept in good condition and be returned in time for
the relevant competition the following year.
ii) It is the responsibility of the winner to arrange for trophies to be
engraved and cleaned.
iii) *Winners must sign for the trophy and provide contact details to the
NEUAL Organiser before taking possession of the trophy.
7) *NEUAL Team and Squad selection
i) The squad shall be selected from the scores shot in matches and
championships organised by NEUAL during the present and previous
seasons.
ii) Additional scores may be taken into account if necessary.
iii) The squad shall consist of at least 12 archers, the team being of as many as
required, with reserves.
iv) The NEUAL Organiser shall be responsible for squad and team selection.
Their decision shall be final.

8) *NEUAL account
i) The NEUAL account will be held for the present by the University of
York Archery Club.
9) Protests
i) Any protests should be made to the NEUAL Organiser as soon as possible.
ii) A reply and decision on the protest shall be provided by the NEUAL
Organiser within one week of the protest being received.
