A Letter for our President,
Chairman, and Director,
Dear Friends and Supporters of the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum,
As we close this fiscal year in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birthday
of Antonio Meucci, it is our pleasure to present you with our Annual Report.
Over the last 12 months our focus has been on developing our exhibitions and
programs, both within the museum and externally. We have also been working hard
to strengthen relationships with our members and the community at large. The results
have been an increase in attendance at our programs and events—we even added a
seventh Italian language class!
We had a wonderful array of artists in our gallery this year. From the sculpture
of Janice Patrignani to the introspective works of B. Amore and Juliette Pelletier, the
gallery continues to exhibit contemporary Italian art and culture. We were thrilled to
be able to bring the art work of Naples-born Gabriella Pucciarelli directly from Italy to
be viewed at the museum for the first time ever in the United States.
We also launched a new program this year, the Terza Domenica Heritage
Series. This program has brought both our faithful membership base as well as a
new, broader community an improved consciousness of Italian heritage and culture.
Topics have included lectures on the appreciation of Italian opera, understanding
Italian holiday customs and book-signings by prominent Italian-American authors.
Externally, we have worked to develop partnerships with other cultural institutions,
allowing us to bring exhibits to the public that our current space limitation would
otherwise not allow.
Additionally this year, the museum was awarded a matching grant up to $50,000
from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to complete a full restoration on
the exterior of the building. Mindful of the economy, the opportunity was too good
to let go and the groundwork was laid to begin work in early 2009.
Since 1956, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum has stood at the center of Italian
history, heritage and culture in America. Your contributions have helped, in no small
way, to continue this tradition. We realize that each of our contributors is presented
with many compelling opportunities for charitable giving, and we thank you for
choosing to stand behind our important work of “Preserving the Past for the Future.”
We encourage you to continue your support by contributing using the enclosed
donation envelope or by visiting our website at www.garibaldimeuccimuseum.org.
On behalf of our patron, we thank you for your support and hope you will stop
in to see us at your museum.
Yours sincerely,
John Dabbene Robert Necci Nicole Fenton
