This help guide will show you the steps to install Gmail Notifier and use Google Talk.



Gmail Notifier and Google Talk

The Gmail Notifier is an application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. It displays an icon

in your system tray to let you know if you have unread Gmail messages, and shows you their subjects,

senders and snippets, all without your having to open a web browser. To review system requirements and

 IF you have Google Talk client installed, you will automatically receive new mail notifications from

Google Talk and do not need to install the Notifier.

 IF you have a PC, you will need to use Google Talk.

 IF you have a Mac, you will be able to use the Gmail Notifier.



Installing Google Talk (For PC users)

 Search ‘google talk’ in the search box and click ‘Google Search’









 Click on the first link and it will take you to this screen to the right.

 Click on the blue button ‘Download Google Talk’.

 You will get a box like the one shown below.

 Click ‘Save file.’









 Open Google Talk where it has saved to. (i.e. if using

firefox, it will be in the downloads)

 Double click on it.









 Click ‘ok.’

 Click on ‘Run.’









 Click ‘Agree.’









 Once it has finished loading.

Click on ‘Close.’

 Click ‘Finish.’









 The Google Talk log in box will appear .

 Enter in your [username]@stkate.edu and primary [password].

(i.e. Mary Lee Thomas = mlthomas@stkate.edu).

 Then select ‘Sign in.’









 Click on ‘Settings’ which is located in the upper-right hand corner.

 On the left side, select ‘Notifications.’ Here

you will be able to change the notification

settings.









 At the bottom of the window where is says New email, check the box new to Show notification.

 Then click on ‘ok.’









 Once this has been successfully done, you will be notified when you receive new email.

 At the bottom right corner, a box will appear with a small summary of each new email.

 In the Google Talk window, you can check to see if you have new email by looking at the icon at the

bottom of the window.

 You can also move your mouse over the gmail icon, located at the lower right hand corner of the

screen where your programs are running, to check for new email.
