Stop acid reflux, GERD and heartburn once and for all.

Acid reflux problems are not something that you have when you are born. This is really a condition

that very frequently happens because of life style, and the way that you eat. You just cannot live

with elevated stress levels, 10 hours sitting at a desk after which you have no physical exercise or

physical activity, and poor diet and consuming habits - that just happen to include many of the

foods know to trigger acid reflux.

Diet is a main cause for acid reflux disease. And doesn't it then make sense that since this will be

the case, than you might very well be able to control this through an acid reflux diet that's created

around eliminating or avoiding the most problematic meals. Ultimately, you are going to have 2

objectives: (1) not eating foods which have extra secretion of acid (2) not consuming meals that

require much more enzymes to digest it.

When you begin planning your new acid reflux diet plan, you obviously wish to eliminate the

specific foods that are causing you, and that are known to cause the most reflux and heartburn.

These will consist of meals with the most acidic, foods like the citrus fruits oranges, lemons, and

grapefruits. Tomatoes aren't regarded as citrus, but they do have extremely high acid content, and

do note how they are used as a base in so many things that you eat like soups and sauces.

You will also want to stay away from foods that have a large amount of extra fat in them, because

those kinds of foods have a tendency to increase abdomen acid as they're digested. This happens

because fatty foods relax the lower esophageal sphincter muscle. So instead of remaining closed

throughout digest as intended, it relaxes and allows the acid to get back into the esophagus. Also,

be aware that these kinds of foods digest slower. As the outcome, the acid is going to in the

abdomen longer, and thus be more available to reflux and cause heartburn.

What meals have a large amount of extra fat in them? You guessed it - the more you want to eat

it, then likely the much more fat it will contain. Do keep in mind that this includes fried foods as

well, from the fat in the oil if not the food itself. What did I like to order when I went out to eat? How

about a chicken wing appetizer, salad with 1000 island dressing, rib-eye steak, baked potato with

butter and sour cream, and obviously ice cream pie to push it all down. Oh yeah, don't forget that

red wine. No, this is not a problem because of fat content, but definitely a cause of acid reflux.

Well, this has become a thing of the past.

As you will think about reflux and heartburn diet considerations, I'm sure this is going to feel very

restrictive. I know these were my thoughts when I was making my choice to go this route to get rid

of my acid reflux. But then I realized what the choice involved. Did I want to really let this get out of

hand and maybe eventually have surgery, or did I want to give up some meals, that also weren't

really great for me in general? Accordingly, it became a simple decision to make.

Besides the meals with high extra fat content and also the extremely acidic foods, you will find

other acid reflux trigger foods. You'll want to remain far from highly spicy foods or sauces in

general, which would include chilies and peppers, onions and garlic, and no more of those hot

chicken wings. Also, eliminate highly meals with highly processed foods having a lot of sugar and

white floor in them, as these are recognized to trigger an acidic reaction.

You may not think of this at first, but you will find that there are many liquids that are to be

avoided. Alcohol burns the lining from the esophagus. And the fermented alcoholic drinks that

would include beer and wine are the worst. For example, it has been shown that beer may actually

double the acid in your stomach in as little as an hour.

Any caffeinated drink like soft drinks, coffee, or tea might be a problem. And do note that since

coffee is acidic in general, decaf wouldn't be a substitute. Also, drinking non-caffeinated or sugar-

free soda does not replace regular soda because of the carbonation in them.

And then there is milk. Have you heard that this will calm the stomach after eating too much? For

a short time period it may just do that. But later on, while sleeping, milk has a tendency to trigger

stomach acid secretion, which in turn can lead to much more acid reflux disorder.

So, can you eat anything?

Before planning what you can eat, do consider some of your eating habits, because they will play

a large part in your success. For example, do eat so much at one time, particularly at dinner.

Regardless what the food may be, eating smaller amounts of food at a time will result in needing

less acid to digest it, and therefore lessen the opportunity for problems. Also, don't lie down right

after you eat - that nap can wait. When you are reclined you are in a position that leads to extra

reflux; stay upright for an hour or more.

You really do have a large amount of foods that you are able to choose to eat. Just think nutrition

and healthy in common, while staying away from those main acid reflux trigger foods. Get a good

book as a comprehensive guide for the best foods to eat. One that I really liked is called Eating for

Acid Reflux: A Handbook and Cookbook for Those with Heartburn. Besides being a guide, it is

also a cookbook with over 100 recipes that are both low in fat and low acid, even including some

substitutes for some of the trigger foods like salad dressings and deserts.

Ideally, you will get your this under control. Once this is done you are able to think about

attempting to eat some of those other meals that you like. Just do so slowly and in small quantities

while you are determining whether you can tolerate it, and it is not leading to your acid reflux

problems.

It's highly recommended to maintain a meals diary, where you write down the foods and quantities

that you eat, along with the response that it has on your acid reflux. If you discover that some of

the acid reflux trigger meals don't affect you, then you can continue eating them. But in the event

you find that you get acid reflux and heartburn from them, now you'll know the foods to keep

avoiding in your attempt to regulate acid reflux disorder via an acid reflux diet.

Acid reflux and heartburn is something that everyone has at some time. But when it becomes a

problem that is affecting your life, it is absolutely something that cannot be ignored.
