Aloe vera is an extraordinary plant and is possibly the most widely used plant for skin applications

in history, assisting with natural healing and skin regeneration. Often referred to by scientists as

the "medicine plant", Aloe vera has been used for centuries to care for and soothe the skin. It is

the Aloe 'barbadensis' or Aloe vera (meaning 'true' Aloe) plant which has the best and most clearly

researched health promoting properties. Aloe vera, or commercial products containing aloe, is

found in most American households. Aloe vera gel is widely used for the treatment of various skin

conditions. Aloe-containing creams, gels, and ointments are used for minor burns, sunburn, cuts

and abrasions, wounds, and frostbite. Aloe gel is also found in many shampoos, soaps,

sunscreens, skin creams and other cosmetics that are used to soothe, heal, protect, and

moisturize the skin.

Aloe vera is a stemless perennial evergreen plant belonging to the lily family. It is thought to have

originated from northern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Today it is widely cultivated in

southern Texas, Mexico, and coastal Venezuela. Aloe gel is a mucilaginous gel obtained from

splitting open the center of the succulent leathery leaves of the aloe vera plant. It is this gel inside

the leaves, which is Aloe vera's lifeblood that is rich in many nutrients and water. It is the

storehouse of over 100 minerals, enzymes, vitamins, lipids, amino acids and other active

compounds - some of which are exclusive to Aloe vera, that give this plant a wide array of natural

health applications, which often seem too good to be true. The gel from the inner core of the leaf is

rich in glucomannans and other polysaccharides.

Recent studies have shown that aloe vera gel facilitates the healing of wounds and damaged skin

tissue. It can decrease the redness and swelling associated with a burn. The gel also prevents

skin damage resulting from exposure to ultraviolet radiation associated with direct sunlight.

Applying aloe gel several times a day causes the redness of sunburn to disappear within a day or

two without the skin peeling off. In addition, a cream containing aloe gel has been found to be

effective in treating frostbite injury. Topical use of a cream containing 0.5 percent aloe vera extract

three times a day for four weeks has been shown to provide a high cure rate of the skin lesions in

psoriasis patients. Further research suggests that aloe vera gel may also provide mild analgesic

and anti-inflammatory effects. To date, there are no known adverse reactions or side effects with

the topical use of aloe gel.

Aloe vera is a very popular herbal remedy. The gel obtained from the center of the leaves of aloe

vera provides useful healing qualities. The external application of the gel provides simple relief

from common skin problems. On the other hand, the yellow juice from the outer margins is a

potent laxative. The two extracts of the plant should not be confused.

In combination with Choraphor (and other therapies), Aloe vera gel can help to speed the healing

process of an outbreak by soothing and regenerating the skin. Use of Aloe vera is highly

recommended to assist in rapid repair of the skin and to promote new cell growth. For best results,

it should be applied after the infection has 'closed over' or once the lesion has formed a crusting

layer (scab). Aloe vera gel is extremely safe and is non-toxic to skin and mucous membranes. This

means that the gel can be safely digested, although it has a very bitter, unpleasant taste, or

applied to otherwise sensitive areas such as the lips, inside of the mouth, the gums, nostrils and

genital areas (including the anus). In addition to helping herpetic viral lesions, Aloe vera gel may

be helpful when applied to aphthous ulcers, canker sores, and cracks occurring at the corners of

the lips. Gum abscesses are also often soothed by applications of Aloe vera.

Many people have experienced the healing powers of the Aloe Vera plant when applied topically

to a cut or burn. Research shows us there are five natural occurring anti-inflammatory agents that

exist along with growth factors located in the plant. They work together quickly to relieve pain

sensations, reverse scarring and speed healing miraculously! The healing magic of drinking Aloe

Vera is also supported through scientific research and ancient writings of traditional use of the

plant. First and foremost Aloe Vera is classified as an herbal bitter. The bitter portions of the plant

also known as anthraquinones are located just under the outer leaf. So if you drink the Whole Leaf

Aloe Vera Juice Concentrate - still containing the bitter yellow sap as nature provides in the plant

itself - you will receive this wonderful digestive bitter. Be aware that products that state they

remove aloin and aloe emodin are void of the bitter properties from Aloe Vera. The exceptional

soothing and rejuvenating properties of Aloe vera is attributed to so many factors. The Aloe vera

gel forms a unique barrier on the skin which "seals in" essential nutrients and moisturizers, while

still allowing it to breathe normally. Also, Aloe vera is "Biogenic" which is defined as 'life

generating' or having the biochemical capacity to generate new life. Being biogenic, Aloe vera gel

assists in growth stimulation and penetrates deep below the many layers of skin, caring for and

nourishing the skin from the inside out. Aloe vera helps to stimulate cells known as 'dermal

fibroblasts' which increase the synthesis and deposition of collagen and elastin, required by the

skin to restore and maintain itself.

Skin health is achieved through addressing two crucial factors. First an individual must optimize

how the body works. Second an individual must maximize the body to build healthy lining cells that

cover the body on the inside and out. Several areas must be implemented for success when

rebuilding the health of the skin. These include daily nutrition, drinking water, optimizing digestion,

correcting constipation and liver functions, exercise and balancing the immune system. Along with

this, use of the ancient herb Aloe Vera speeds the regenerative process for healthier skin faster.

No wonder, it has been termed as "Healing Plant". Also, it is being used extensively in soap

making process.
