    Where do they live?
Giraffes live in southern parts of Africa
They are usually found among lots of trees
They roam
the dry,
hard lands
They do not
travel long
distances
because they
have enough
food in the
area
     What do they eat?
Fruits of various trees and
grass
Acacia tree leaves are their
favorite
A giraffe uses its long muscular tongue and
lips to rip leaves from branches
They spend 16-20 hours per day chewing
leaves and plants
They eat 15-65 pounds of plant life per day
The leaves have lots of water so they can go a
long time without drinking
What do they look like?
They have two distinct
hair-covered horns
Different spot patterns
on giraffes are used to
identify them
Giraffe coat colors vary
from light tan to almost
black, this occurs from
what they eat and
where they are from
Males = up to 18ft tall
and 3000 pounds
Females = up to 14ft
tall and 1500 pounds
