ILS Bulletin 2009-9: Modification to Staff Pac Holdings Display August 10, 2009
Full Bulletin: In order to make AquaBrowser display holdings from all Online Libraries with the local library’s holdings at the top, we must modify how Horizon Staff Pac displays holdings. Based on information from SirsiDynix and AquaBrowser, this is the only way to accomplish the goal. As a refresher, Figure 1 (seen at the end of this document) shows a bibliographic record in Staff Pac. The user can display holdings for that title at his/her library (in this case, Austin PL) by clicking the Show Copies button. The user can click the All Locations button to change the display to holdings from all Online Libraries, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. In this example, the first nine of 207 items are held by Albert Lea PL. The All Locations/This Location button is a toggle; users can move back and forth between the two lists as desired. After modifying Horizon to display holdings in AquaBrowser, the initial holdings list that currently shows only the local library’s holdings will instead display holdings for all libraries with the local library at the top. See Figure 4. In this example, the local library is Mayo High School, Rochester Public Schools. After displaying the two copies at the local library, holdings for other libraries are listed. Clicking the All Locations button delivers the same functionality we have now: a list of holdings at all libraries. With the initial list showing all libraries, it seems unlikely that the All Locations button will be used much. While this represents a change in functionality, it does not really change the basic intention of the software. The All Libraries/This Library toggle was intended to allow each library to immediately see their own holdings with the option to move on to holdings at all libraries. If anything, this change makes that function more efficient. Therefore, it is hoped that we can roll it out with minimal disruption for the Online Libraries. This change will be made after 9:00 PM on Wednesday, August 12 and should be visible to Online Library staff on Thursday morning.
