Bulletin Board May - June 2006 New ASCA Rally Committee seeking resumes Recently, the ASCA Obedience Committee requested in a Motion to the Board of Directors that ASCA establish a Rally Committee for the purpose of creating ASCA’s rally-type program. This was approved by the Directors. If you are interested in working on this project, please send your resumes to Executive Secretary, Jo Kimes, 699 FM 1011, Liberty, TX 77575, FAX (936) 336-2379, jo.kimes@imsday.com. Applicants will be selected and appointed at the ASCA Board Meetings being held at the Nationals this fall. Above and Beyond Junior ASCA's Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the honor of Above and Beyond Junior for the year 2005 has been awarded to Erica Escalada from Florida. Erica has not only shown her determination with Aussies in the Show Ring but also on how she handles herself outside the ring by helping and cheering on her fellow Junior competitors. She is ready to take on new challenges as they present themselves to her and has been successful in venues other than Junior Showmanship. Erica also provides a valuable service to her community by volunteering multiple times a week at a local therapeutic riding center in Florida. On behalf of the ASCA Board of Directors and the ASCA Membership we congratulate Erica Escalada for this achievement. Letters of nomination for the 2006 ASCA Junior Service Award (“Above and Beyond Award”) must be submitted to Executive Secretary, Jo Kimes, 699 FM 1011, Liberty, TX 77575, FAX (936) 336-2379, jo.kimes@imsday.com by September 1, 2006. There is an ad in the March – April issue of the Aussie Times on page 34. Please check there for a description and requirements for this Award. ASCA Business Office Address Remember that the ASCA Business Office has changed to the actual street address: ASCA Business Office 6091 E. State Highway 21 Bryan, TX 77808 Registrations Since the time is coming soon for Nationals entries, please keep the following in mind. Some issues arise every year during the period of time that the entries were open for the Nationals and the Pre-shows that need to be addressed. At the last minute, the Office receives many requests for registrations so that dogs could be entered in the Nationals. Often, these are not young puppies following normal registration timeframes, but are adults whose registrations are not completed in a timely manner, but which, at the last minute, suddenly become an EMERGENCY. Please plan ahead and be considerate of the ASCA Business Office Staff who have full plates all year long. It is very unfair to wait until the last possible moment to register dogs that will be entered in one of these shows or any ASCA show. Also, please be sure that you have signed everything with all required signatures, that you have enclosed photos and all required information, and that you have included the proper fees! The Staff may not be able to complete your registrations i n a timely manner if any of the above is not included. Reminder from the Registrar – Sires (and Dams) and DNA Applications for Litter Registration from Sires producing their third (or greater) litter will not be processed until the Sire has been DNA profiled with an ASCA approved lab and recorded as DNA-CP or DNA-VP with the ASCA Registrar. Effective January 1, 2006. This requirement means that Sires and Dams must both be DNA Profiled before their third or greater litter is registered. Registrations of litters may be held up while DNA Requirement is being fulfilled. Once again, planning ahead is you best option. Affiliate Clubs have free space What do you mean free space? Affiliate Clubs have space in the Aussie Times once a year for a club report to be included in Affiliate News . This update for the Membership is the responsibility of the Affiliate Rep. for each Club. Of course, the Club also has the responsibility to ensure that what is submitted by the Rep. is accurate. What goes in these reports? They can include items of national interest, year-end awards, register of merit awards, human (or dog) interest information, and/or special events (Picnics, Fun Days, or special fundraising efforts could be featured) or awards. This is not to promote shows and trials that are being planned as you would submit those to Coming Events. Most of these reports include a run down of what the club did in the last year. These are usually well written and are well worth reading! There are often good ideas to be gleaned. What Clubs will be featured in the upcoming issues of the Aussie Times? The Affiliate Clubs that are in the following states are scheduled for space in the July – August 2006 issue will include reports from: Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri. The July – August 2006 Aussie Times issue deadline is May 15, 2006. Also to allow you to plan ahead, the September - October 2006 issue will include reports from: Arkansas, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida and the September – October 2006 issue deadline is July 15, 2006. The ASCA Foundation -- fundraising for the Phenome Project and now Epilepsy! The ASCA Board has established the ASCA Foundation, a 501c3 entity which can receive donations (tax deductible) for many different projects. We are pleased to announce that the ASCA Foundation is in place, and the Foundation Board has been raising funds to support the Phenome Project. At the Nationals, during their Meetings, the Foundation Board decided to add a project and begin raising funds to be distributed to Epilepsy Research projects. Donations for these projects can be sent to the ASCA Business Office with the notation that the funds are being donated in support of the Phenome Project or Epilepsy Research. You donation will be earmarked for that project and will be dispersed to the project of your choice. You will receive an acknowledgement of your donation from the ASCA Office for your tax records. By your donation to the Phenome Project or Epilepsy Research through the ASCA Foundation, you can help ASCA benefit our breed immeasurably. Please send your donation made out to The ASCA Foundation to the ASCA Business Office, 6091 E. State Highway 21, Bryan TX 77808 (new address!) and be sure to indicate that your donation is for the Phenome Project or Epilepsy Research. Along with these two projects, the ASCA Foundation is also the home of the Cee Hambo Education Trust. You can make donations to that Fund as well. Please see future issues for details about this portion of the Foundation. Thank you for your donation to the ASCA Foundation! ASCA Agility Co-sanctioning of ASCA Agility with NADAC will end on May 31, 2006. The ASCA Agility Committee has been working on the changes to ASCA's agility program that will be necessary for ASCA to move its Agility program forward. The ASCA Agility Program after May 31, 2006 is open to all breeds of dogs. Any dog breed can compete in the ASCA Agility Program. All that is needed to earn ASCA titles in agility is an ASCA Tracking Number. This is the same for Stock Trials, Obedience, and Tracking. The agility program now has a way to approve ASCA agility judges. If someone is currently an approved judge in another major agility organization, they can apply to become an ASCA agility judge. The requirements can be found in the appendix of the ASCA agility rule book, which is available on the ASCA Web Site in the Forms and Rule Books section. Questions can be directed to the Business Office. Section 1 - Requirements All individuals on the NADAC Approved Judges List are automatically eligible to officiate at ASCA sanctioned Agility Trials. In addition, individuals on a former (within the past ten years) NADAC Approved Judges List, as well as approved agility judges from other organizations (USDAA, CPE, AAC, CKC, and AKC, and after May 31, 2006, DOCNA) may apply to become ASCA Agility Judges. To be considered for an ASCA approved Agility Judge, an applicant (who is not currently a NADAC Approved Agility Judge) must meet the following requirements: 1. The applicant must be a fully approved (not provisional, apprentice or under supervision) judge in another major agility organization at any level (USDAA, AAC, CPE, CKC and AKC, and after May 31, 2006, DOCNA) and have successfully completed three (3) sanctioned judging assignments in any major agility organization. This requirement does not apply to former NADAC judges who were on the NADAC approved Judges List at any time during the past ten years from the date of such judge’s application. 2. The applicant must fill out the ASCA Agility Judge’s Application and include the required documentation. 3. Applicants (and current ASCA Judges) must pass an open book exam every two years to remain on the ASCA Approved Agility Judges list. All questions on the test must be answered correctly. A judge may retake the test until all questions are answered correctly. 4. Applicants must have internet access and a valid email address. 5. Applicants and judges must be in good standing with ASCA. 6. Periodically applicants may be evaluated on how efficiently and well they can set a course and their overall performance as a judge. 7. Applicants must have titled at least one dog at the highest level in any Agility Organization listed above.
